XGI - Any good?

Hello folks.
I possess an ATI 9600XT w/256MB.
My friend asked me if it's a good card to buy and I suggested I will check it through.
I saw there was another company creating GCs and wanted to ask your opinion.
He doesn't want the latest High-End card, he want's something affordable with good performance.

So, what do you say about XGI? are they any good? or should he stick to ATI/nVidia?
Concider the prices too, he doesn't want to spend 400$ on a 6800GT. but something closer to a 100$ (Can be more, or less...)

Thanks.
And just wanted to say Good Luck to the newcommers XGI. another company in the market can bring the prices to the bottom of bottoms if she can keep up with the other companies...

System Specs

Does this answer your question?
Screwed myself over

ATI & Nvidia have been making low, middle and high end cards for ages, and both have a "mature" unified driver that supports pretty well the entire range.

Good luck to anyone who can challenge them, but you'd have to be brave to try anything else unless you're talking about onboard lightweights such as the S3 bulit into VIA chipsets, or Intel Extremely average.

Anyone that isn't ATI or Nvidia needs to try 10 times harder, and it sounds like XGI are falling well short on getting decent drivers out.

heh i know that thread....

yea the hardware is good, but the drivers suck. Give it a year or two and they should have functioning drivers but for now, stick with Ati/Nividia. Besides you can get a good sapphire card for 60$ its only 128-Bit interface but hey better than a 256 with crap drivers.

thats some cards made by sapphire.
