yeah I think its a notebook thing... I remember having a NeoMagic MagicGraph in my old Compaq POS
Only place I could think of to get a driver would be driverguide. User login = Drivers/all last time I checked.

hey can you actually play any games on those? (i know not doom3 or anything within the last 2 years or so. but older games...like maybe UT original?)
I am getting an old laptop with a NeoMagic MagicMedia 256ZX. the ZX is beefier than the AV version but i was wondering anyway.

The ZX still has no 3D hardware... that was added in the XL, according to an archived page.
So you can run games, but only those that will be satisfied with 100% software rendering.
Don't know about UT original - it should manage Doom original.

Naw its gotta have 3d stuff. It shows support for all this OpenGL shit and Direct X. On this Driver webpage they even have 3rd party stuff to get directX 8 working.

How do you know it supports 3D? I am having a hell of a time even finding specs for this! I have an IBM Thinkpad with this video card and I am desperate to find 3D drivers for it. You'd think the IBM site would have some drivers. Er, hmm, maybe I should go there (d'oh!)

Screwed
I think we are screwed, buddy. On the IBM site the only thing it would say was the card supported MPEG-1 video playback. I doubt this card is a "3D" in any real sense of the word. Sigh. Oh well, who needs good gaming resolution

edit:
well someone on a different forum said he got 3d graphics to work with this
http://www.v3x.net/directx/
unfortunatly I have no idea how that would work since it looks like it requires openGL already...
i dunno
but he said thats what he did for his thinkpad with the 256AV its worth a shot i guess.

Before I had the Dell laptop below, I had an IBM 600e with the NeoMagic256AV chip in it - ran UT just fine using software rendering... It looked good too as I remember. It'll probably run the original Serious Sam too, just won't look great - but the gameplay counts for a lot!
Just make sure you have Direct X installed or allow to be installed (if you don't have it installed already) when you install UT.
