Nvidia 7950GT or Radeon X1950PRO ??

Straight to the point...

HIS Radeon X1950PRO
Engine: 590MHz
Memory 1540MHz (1.2ns)

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

OR...

XFX GeForce 7950GT
Engine: 550MHz
Memory 1200MHZ

XFX GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out AGP Graphics Card

Memory size is irrelevant here guys since I only run a Pro CRT unit - 1024x768 @ 85Hz

1) I know the 7900GS doesn't include support for Anti-Aliasing + HDR at the same time but is the 7950GT any different?

2) Which card will suit my system best? (Specs are below in my Signature)

3) I know the 7950GT includes hardware video decoding but does the x1950PRO have video hardware decoding as well? If so which is best.

I know its a lot to answer for me but any help is much appreciated.

Regards, Nick.

The 7950GT is a tad faster, it's more comparable in speed to the X1950 XT.

To be honest, I'd probably make the purchase based mostly on fan noise between those two cards, if you're sticking with the stock cooling. Not too sure myself how they compare for noise though, maybe someone else here knows?

Answers to your questions:

1) Architecturally, there's little difference between the 79xx cards, so I'm guessing any limitations are constant accross the board.

2) They should both run fine, like I mentioned, the 7950GT will be faster.

3) No idea, if nobody else answers this, I'll go look it up, I'm interested too, I won't get back to this thread for a couple of days though.

I'd go with the 7950GT because it's faster and you'll need to squeeze every ounce of performance from that AGP card. Also, it has double the memory which pretty much seals the deal.

What he said.

As for whether or not the X1950 Pro has video hardware decoding, yes, it does, and frankly the quality is much better. Does that effect gaming? Nope. Hence the nod to the 7950GT.

Thanks, but the X1950 also has a 512mb version. So the extra speed of the 1.2ns memory on the x1950pro wouldn't be faster for me?

And what about running HDR + Anti-aliasing simultaneously?

Thanks for your help...I probably will end up grabbing one of the last 7950GT's whilst they are still around, tis a shame that the x1950 pro has better video decoding, shader modules & can run HDR + Anti-Aliasing simultaneously though.

OMG.

HIS X1950Pro IceQ 3 Turbo 2x Dual Link DVI & TV (HDCP) 512MB (256bit) GDDR3 AGP (PAL) (RoHS) Rev.2

I just found the X1950PRO for £20 cheaper with double the memory, 512mb! bargain, sorry but i'm going to have to get it whilst stock lasts!!!!
