Apple sells 100 million songs in Europe

Apple on Wednesday celebrated the 100 millionth song downloaded from its European iTunes Music Store.

In downloading the milestone song (a recording of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte,”), Ken Reist of Steenokkerzeel, Belgium, won a 17-inch iMac G5, 10,000 song gift card, and two tickets to see Robbie Williams in concert.

Apple launched its European iTunes Music Store in June 2004, with online stores serving the UK, France and Germany. By October, it was online in more than 10 countries, and by June 15 of this year, Apple announced that these European stores had sold over 50 million songs in the first year.

Apple’s US iTunes Music Store on Tuesday said it had provided over 3 million video downloads since it started in October.
