Daemon Tools v4 Released

Dear DT-Community,

today, we release the new V4.00.

As we already heard from our customers, it fixes indeed
most or even all blacklists - however, it is STILL a SCSI-Emulator,
therefore it's still necessary to remove present IDE-Drives!

As nearly all protections now block ALL SCSI-Drives, no matter
if REAL or VIRTUAL, you need to DISABLE your ide-drives!
This version is more or less only a "next step", it does NOT
contain an IDE-Jammer atm. However, we are working on it and
will hopefully have it ready soon. So be warned - do NOT complain
about the "lack" of the IDE-Jammer-Device. We release it now,
as is. It fullfilles its job as long as no IDE is present in
System or you otherwise block that IDE-nodes. After all it's
STILL free!

Another important change is the integration of ADWARE.
Yes, we need that revenues. However, we decided to let
YOU choose to run it with ADWARE and support us - or simple
turn it OFF in installation-process and run it same way
as former versions - without ADWARE. By default, it is turned
ON - to not install that ADWARE, please UNCHECK at installation
"DAEMON TOOLS SEARCHBAR" (or you can remove it anytime later when
you wish via "Control Panel"-> "Add/Remove programs")

We leave that decision to you, so please don't blame us that we did
it that way. It was a compromise to continue the free support -
we would much appreciate it if you install that ADWARE-stuff. We set-
up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions,
concerns or anything else that is related to that ADWARE. The forum's
name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar".

OK ... but right now the only d/l link on their site goes to a Chinese site that (since I can't read Chinese I'm guessing) looks down ... plus I'm not sure I understand their comments about IDE drives ... I think this has to do w/ disabling IDE drives when using their SW with an image that's copy protected ... or ???

I think IDE-driver thing is just for the starforce, I'm quite sure. Gonna test tomorrow(

) how my backups are working.. As they are useless now.

wouldn't be the only program to allow the user to not install bundled adware, i use a program like that, however spyware/adware scans don't find anything related to it

May I recommend game jackal to the masses then? www.gamejackal.com

I've been using it for about a week now and it's absolutely fantastic. Just start the wizard, pop in your game disk, and launch the game. Game jackal will capture the game starting in a small file (mine are anywhere from 20-300k) and you'll never need to use the cd again. The best part is, (they claim) you can only capture an original cd which adds to the legitimacy of the program.

There's also parental control locks you can use on a game by game basis, so that captured copy of spongebob's adventure will work no sweat but your toddler can't launch half life 2. You can also set a time limit, like "only allow so and so to play farcry for 2 hours today". Useless features for me, but I know some of you are parents :P

There's some trouble with securom 7 right now, but with a little forum reading those work too. They've also been running up and down the forums saying a new release is coming very soon to address the issue.

I bought my copy at their special offer price of 10 bucks and I don't regret a penny of it. There's a 30 day free trial.

I feel this is superior to alcohol or daemon because this is a legitimate product specifically aimed at the market who doesn't want to use cds when playing their games. I think the game industry will embrace this program unlike the blacklisting done to alcohol or daemon. That'll only come with understanding though. I'm pretty sure at one point a popular company blacklisted game jackal and then released another patch to unblacklist it.

For you shady gamers there's plugins that allow you to run the wizard and capture from a daemon tools drive, but as a game developer myself I don't support that kind of thing at all.

Not sure I understand that either. Disabling IDE drives? In what circumstance is that necessary?

When you want to circumvent certain types of copy protection (such as Starforce).

Finny, I've loaded the program and have not noticed anything remotely related to adware loaded along wtih it.

Guess the one I got from the torrent link provided has that lovely feature removed.

they give you the option to turn the ADWARE OFF during isntall if you read/pay attention.

Just uncheck the DAEMON toolbar during install

And if i'm not mistaken, the toolbar just runs intellitxt type stuff

Yeah, unchecking will make sure you won't spyware as stated. Even without the warning, who would install toolbars anyway?

I have purchased GameJackal as well. Still doesn't work w/ Starforce, though.

Unfortunately, the easiest thing is still to get a no-CD crack. No "learning" process as in GameJackal.

My reason is not to pirate, but I hate switching CDs all the time. Or worrying about where I put them. Example: I once took a game CD to work to play on the network w/ my friends and someone grabbed it.

Generally, I also make ISO backups of my non-copy protected CDs and run them off a network drive w/ Daemon-Tools instead of digging out the CD if I want to patch, say, Office when it asks for the CD.

I have no problem with this at all,i for one try to use no-cd cracks were possible.Just saves time swapping disks.

I updated to V4 from 3.47 when I finally got home today. It didnt offer me any options for not installing the "spyware". I was forced to reboot, and nortons corporate and micrsoft (giants) antispyware stopped adware SAVENOW - a hateful little hack indeed

. I ran a full scan to be sure.

I understand people needing to get some form of income but I think this is a little extreme.

It's sad but more and more programs resort to forcefull adaware installation

apart from that, good program and al lbut no fundamental changes. Still, nice and nifty and a worth program for anyone.

I couldnt honestly be without daemon tools, ill deal with it. it just kind of leaves a sour taste in your mouth. id actually rather donate and get a nonspyware version, but I dont see that option.

Ah well i just hope he gets enough to keep going !

By the release info I felt like I could wait for 4.01-something, as I was already having Alcohol 120% installed anyway. Lucky me I guess. But I wonder a bit about why they rushed this one out. Was the fans' nagging just getting too irritating or is there maybe some other program coming out soon...
