Motorola CEO: 'Screw the nano'

Apple Computer's newest MP3 player, the iPod nano, is receiving rave reviews and analysts believe the device will solidify Apple's dominance in the competitive MP3 player market for at least another year. However, not everyone praises the device -- Motorola CEO Ed Zander had some harsh words for the nano in a recent interview.

"Screw the nano," said Zander. "What the hell does the nano do? Who listens to 1,000 songs? People are going to want devices that do more than just play music, something that can be seen in many other countries with more advanced mobile phone networks and savvy users," he said.

Zander's comments come just three weeks after the introduction of the iPod nano in an event that also saw the unveiling of the Motorola Rokr, the first iTunes compatible phone.

Traditionally Apple likes to have complete control over products it introduces, which led some consumers and analysts to speculate that Apple would release their own iTunes phone. The company instead opted to partner with Motorola to develop the hardware. Zander declined to comment specifically on the idea of an Apple smart phone, but said "all computer companies are thinking about voice."

Unlike the positive iPod nano reviews and outlook for the device, reviews of the Motorola phone have been mixed at best.

Uh, thats the same attitude that lost Motorola to Intel. Anyone tell me who made the 680x0 processors for Apple for COUNTLESS years? AND the newer PowerPC chips?

Bingo!

Screw the nano? (that'd be a sight to see, considering its 'so small'! lol), I say screw Motorola. Stick to your 2-way radios and stay out of the big-people's conversations. :P

Apple switched from the 680x0 Motorola processor for the PowerPC processor that was jointly made between Motorola and IBM. As we all know, thanks to years of fighting between IBM and Apple they've switched to Intel.

What has me mystified is that Mr. Zander is centering his attention, and his attacks towards the Nano when he should be paying attention to NEC and their e949 phone. This phone is in direct competition with Motorolas Razor V3. If he keeps straying his attention like this NEC is going to take a bite outta his ASSets.

Which is precisely my point. They're too busy looking for 'face time' like umpires and referees at a sporting event, than working hard at thier business, or making the right call.

Stubbornness <sp?) is something I suffered from, so I should know it when I see it.
