Creative Labs explains new driver policies

Creative have spoken to the Inquirer.

Quote:
CREATIVE LABS has made some major changes to its drivers, with the Liveware program now discontinued.
But in a statement to the INQUIRER, the company said that support for the Live "range" will continue.

Creative said that the latest Windows XP drivers for Sound Blaster Live! and Sound Blaster Audigy were only available on CD, and offered at a nominal charge including postage and handling.

It offered these drivers on a CD because, it said, it didn't want customers to wait until they were prepared in Web format, and also were provided in that form because non-broadband Internet users might have spent many hours downloading the whole caboodle.

System Specs

So, from what I understand they are STILL NOT GIVING Audigy2 Drivers to Live! and Audigy users.

This is why I have switched from Creative and will never go back, I presently use the Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1. Better customer service and they don't charge for support, not even shipping and handling. I have broadband and prfer to download drivers, the last thing I want to do is keep track of cd's full of drivers easier to download.

One thing creative has never been known for is customer support

Well I've had nothing but good luck with my Creative cards so I don't see why everyone has such a big beef with them. And yes I do use the advanced features of my card and don't just plug it in and hook up a speaker.

You gotta make a livin'. You have to meet certain demands. You gotta get by some how. Although I believe that this is BS.

Well, kX gives driver as free <2MB download...
So, I don't care too much.
And I will probably buy Audigy2 (all Crystal-based Hercules and other cards have sucky MIDI DLS synth and audio positioning).
Creative doesn't have anything good except audio positioning.
My next card will be either TerraTec DMX 6Fire 24/96(LT) or Audigy2 Platinum.

Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space - especially this one
M-Audio Revolution
Audiotrak Prodigy192

They are VIA Envy24HT/PT based.

I will consider one of these as my next soundcard - and I don't care about EAX3 that is not supported (if I add Reverb to EAX2, it will sound same way).

TRUE 24/96 Recording 24/192 Playback.
ASIO, GSIF, EAX2, A3D1 support
not Creative

all my life i used creative's sound cards, but with this news and their pour driver's performance(i think eax is great, but the hit in the perfomance is very awful), i think that i'll switch to another company.
