Microsoft has released version 6 of its Windows Update Software. Once at the website, you'll have to agree to download some new software which may take a couple of minutes, but once done you'll see the new version of the Windows Update website - although there don't seem to be any new updates on there at the moment.

You have to use the update.microsoft.com link. If you choose windows update from within ie's tools menu then you won't get sent to the update place.

i also think you will need to go to update.microsoft.com/ to visit the Windows Update version 6 web site for the first time, then after you have agreed, and then installed the ActiveX Control for this new Windows update software version the Windows Update shortcut at the IE's Tools menu, or at the Start menu, or Run wupdmgr.exe
should take you to the new Windows Update version 6.

I have been using this for months now. if you dont see "Microsoft Update" instead of "Windows Update" go here

this will update ALL MS products on system.

Yeah but do you know what the opperating costs are on 4x OC-48 lines? Several hundred thousand dollars PER month PER line.

I'd venture a guess, even factoring in the cluster of official WU servers across the world, they could justify dropping 1 of those lines in the amount of bandwidth they'd save by making a LAN-WU server-type thing. (And I don't mean domain-based updates)

i'm using v6 right now, and the only difference i can tell so far is that it has a slightly different look than v5. as of yet, i still cannot tell the difference between the two.

Well one difference that I noticed is that v5 wouldn't work through my school's firewall for some reason (meaning I had to manually download all the updates and the rest of the school is probably months behind). But with v6, windows update actually works again.
