Upgrade to Windows XP Professional x64 Edition from Windows XP Professional (32-bit)
Purchasing technology can be frustrating—the minute you buy something, the new version becomes available. We understand this frustration and have created a program in cooperation with our partners to help alleviate it.
The Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Technology Advancement Program enables customers who have purchased Windows XP Professional (32-bit) to exchange it for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. You will need to have an x64 processor (the AMD Athlon 64, AMD Opteron, Intel Pentium 4 with EM64T, or Intel Xeon with EM64T) to run the new software. More Information

Yeah, I thought with it being released today, this might spark some interest.

If they let you upgrade from Home /w a bit of cash thrown in wouldn't bother me too much. However, I think it's pretty piss poor if I have to buy it out right.

This however is only who have purchased a PC with WindowsXP Pre Installed on it durring a specific time line. This is from the next page after the link for trading XP.
"Technology Advancement Program Eligibility In order to be eligible to receive Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition, your computer must have been ordered between March 31, 2003 and July 31, 2005 with Microsoft Windows® XP Pro (32 Bit) preinstalled." I would imagine to trade in a copy of XP that was purchased by itself they will require that people mail there copy to them.

I will have to agree, I bought my emachine A64 3000+ a year ago, and it came with home edition. To only support Pro is Microsofts way of not loosing alot of money. Most, if not all systems in retail ship Home Edition. The only time I see pro offered is when ordering Dells for my company, and some enthusiast vendors.

Yep, it looks like those of us that built our own systems are left on the outside looking in

Thanks DarkFoss, I missed that the first time I read that
Losing the license is a bummer tho. I was wanting to multi-boot. Oh well, guess I can have #1 son pickup another 'Student Edition' from the local University, and 'trade that one in'
