Default Post AMD to cut Athlon 64 prices in mid-October, launching new parts for socket 939

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is expected to again lower the prices of its socket 754 AMD Athlon 64 processor lineup in mid-October, while also introducing new parts for its socket 939 processor family, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.

AMD Taiwan declined to comment on the report.

Along with the price cuts, AMD will also launch four socket-939 64-bit processors, the AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 3200+, 3500+ and 4000+, the sources noted. The AMD Athlon 64 3800+ is currently the only member of AMD’s 64-bit processor line-up that is available for socket 939.
