Well there were the reports about 1106 having a 242 time-bomb in another thread, so i'd not count it as the final, until u've had it off the MS servers or it orginally came from the MS servers. i.e. get it official to be 100%

hmmm I'm HAMMERING the server right now with FLASHGET but I'm still only getting 3 or 4KB/s. I was thinking that I was going to get about 300KB/s.

if you downloaded the 1106 build in the last few days, you don't need it. I've checked both files and they are exactly the same. byte for byte and bit for bit.

That's very helpful to know as downloading these files at this end of the world are slower than molasses in winter - 3-5 kByte/sec.
A LOT of patience is required, believe me

Default Post For Testing Purposes On Desktop

I installed it and still have the "For Testing Purposes' on my desktop.

I installed over a beta, I think it was 1068.

Is there a way to remove it beta text and/or is there a way to verify that SP1 installed correctly. Such as some place where I can check the version of the SP1 that is installed?

Whoopee, I am not downloading the final XPSP1 release at - wait for it - 0.3 kB/sec.
I am sure I could run to Seattle and back faster

That should say ...I am now...

My Getright tells me that it will take approx. 197 hours to get this file - anyone feel I should hold my breath?

That's funny, I slapped the SP over my FRESH INSTALL of XP Pro and still got the 'Testing Purposes'. I thought this was the final--?!

The SP1 I was using is the 1106 that has been circulating around, and is purported to be the Final!

Default Post "For Testing Purposes"

I got rid of it by nuking the two registry keys with the word testing in it, using Registry Detective. I have seen this workaround in other groups, but can not help but wonder why I had to do it. To make matters worse, I just downloaded the SP1 from Microsoft, and I have a 180 day license agrement in the "Control Panel - About - Splash Screen". What goes on here?

you should never, ever install a SP over a beta service pack. Looks like it would be a good idea to format

I don't remember exactly which site it was from, but it was a link from here in DH.

Weird.

I erased the watermark with one of the "Testing Purposes Remover" programs floating around these boards, but really I didn't think I needed to.

if you use a d/l manager program to d/l the flie you can find out from "history"..
well then i will have to say you have got a wrong or even fake file since you said you have installed it over a "FRESH INSTALL of XP Pro".

"wrong or even fake file" may be i shud not use those words.. but it is!

Default Post 180 day limit

I D/L'ed the 1106 from fileconnect (mirror 4) and installed it over 1102 and had the 180 day time limit, I then reinstalled WinXP Pro over all of that (without reformatting) and the 1102 and 180 day shit was gone. I then reinstalled 1106 over the fresh install of WinXP Pro and everything is fine. No 180 day BS and no "For testing Purposes".

I then went to Windows Update sucessfully and D/L'ed an update for my modem.

So everything is fine here with me.

To everyone with the 180 day BS, Reload WinXP and then Load 1106. You'll be good then.

Default Post that won't work

That will not work. It will remove the EULA but you will still drop in 180 days
