As the speed of CPUs, graphics cards, disk drives etc. spirals ever upwards so does their thirst for power to fuel this speed. As is usual in the PC universe, more power is usually accompanied by the generation of more heat. More heat necessitates better cooling which traditionally means adding more or bigger cooling fans, and that is without mentioning overclocking, which in turn leads to more noise. A modern, fully pimped out, power PC can have more in common with a jet engine than is healthy.
