"The Mobility Radeon 9700 name has already proven to be contentious in some quarters as, to many familiar with the desktop market, this immediately brings to mind ATI's 8-piplined chip, R300 (Radeon 9700 PRO). In fact M11, however, the chip that powers Mobility Radeon 9700 is the mobile equivalent of Radeon 9600 XT's RV360, meaning it is still limited to 4 pipelines. ATI are keen to point out that the "Mobility" branding immediately denotes that this is separate and distinct from the desktop market and that this is their highest performance mobile part to date - indeed its certainly easier to distinguish Mobility Radeon 9700 from the other 9600 mobility parts than it is "Mobility Radeon 9600 XT"."
