Default Post E-mail's not free? Well for Mac Users it isnt anymore.

Apple Computer's plan to start charging for its Mac.com e-mail service has Mac owners scrambling for alternatives.
Even as a petition circulates to try to get Apple to change its mind, many users are shopping around for a lower-cost way to get their mail before Apple pulls the plug on the free service at the end of September.

"I am most upset because I felt I purchased this when I bought the OS," said software engineer Paul Causey, who has now signed up for a free e-mail account through Yahoo. "Each time I went into an Apple store, they sold me on the idea of iDisk and e-mail."

Although Apple never explicitly said that the accounts would be free for life, many Mac users had counted on it and were not happy when CEO Steve Jobs announced that, starting in September, the e-mail accounts will become part of Apple's $99 per year .Mac service

Default Post Someone call WHAAAAAAAmbulance.net!

"I thought I bought it as part of the OS."

Please, sir, put the hookah down, get off the toilet, it's not safe for your iBook anyway. Spark hazards, you know.

Since 1996 free-email providers have come and gone as fast as the tides. Few have survived that got started back then, and not without a cost. Excite offers free e-mail, but their services are now so riddled with advertisements and pop-ups that clog the screen with worthless garbage that the average user would gladly PAY for an e-mail account elsewhere to avoid the problem. E-mail only accounts can be had for pennies a day, without all the advertising and garbage.

So the issue becomes one of vanity. Is it really that important to have that e-mail address? Sure, you have lots of people who send you mail there, but they had to learn your address before, didn't they? How hard is it really to send them all a single e-mail and tell them you're moving to a new e-home? Did you really base your whole computer purchase on bad advertising and a vanity e-mail address?

If that is the case, my poor misguided Mac user, please allow me to comfort you by saying that there is indeed hope. Place your overpriced, underpowered unit in its original packaging and return it immediately for an attempted refund. Take the money and proceed to the nearest PC store. There you will find a unit faster, less expensive, with better software support, more hardware options and features, and you'll have enough left over to take a nice vacation somewhere.

But spare me the petitions, and all the whining. If the address is that important, shuck out the $99 per year, Junior. And I checked, it doesn't come with complimentary lubricant.
