HP declares war on sharing culture

HP and RIAA sitting in a tree...
This large computer manufacturer is setting a precedent by adopting a hardline policy towards file swapping, this may be the first step towards a new direction. HP this week took the unusual move of using a consumer electronics conference as the venue for an unprecedented attack on consumers and their ability to enjoy American technology and culture.

All so that they may line their pockets and keep those 150 million a year salaries.

Real smart there HP....so are you going to have built in protection to make sure no one scans copy right protected pictures on your scanners too? Wonder why your sales will fall 50% in a year? I think some salads are getting tossed in RIAA/HP meetings.

No real suprize here.I guess the RIAA is ticked that Longhorn probably won't ship til 2006, so they're putting the pressure on cd/dvdrw vendors to do something now.Once they get their chips installed into the writers coupled with Longhorn they will be able to control what burning software you install, what you copy ect. I can see it now;Windows has determined you are attempting an illegal operation and is shutting down. An e-mail has been sent to the proper authorities.
Wonder how much $ the Hp ceo's pocketed from this early stance.

Esaz666 will become famous soon enoughEsaz666 will become famous soon enough

Thumbs Up!

if they build the protection in software then it will be hacked,
if they build the protection in hardware then modded hardware will be released,
forget it , HP no chance, do whatever you like and we shall do what we want anyway,
Im not buying any software unless I want and think its worth the money , I will not
be forced by crappy protection methods. we will get round whatever they try.

The more im forced to do something the more I will fight against it, I will buycott buying anything
software wise if they carry on. Riaa kiss my ass.
I have stopped buying music for the last year because of the way the music industry works
and im a musican and have had my own work released by record label!.

Well glad to see HP is appreciatative of all their cd writer sales due to filesharing

What's next cdr disk manufacturers saying they oppose filesharing too

Copy protection schemes dont work, its just a small annoyance.

people dontneed to buy GBA games because of flash carts. (But honastly almost every one of them is crap, and right now my flash cart is exclusevely filled with EMUs for classic systems)

People install mod chips into their PS2s and download all of those games, same with the PSX.

Copy procetion, no matter how good will be circumvented and piracy will not stop. Make something worth buying. I have felt it nessecarry to buy maybe 4-5 games this year because there was just so much crap out there.

1. vice city
2. jedi knight 3
3. KOTOR
4. unreal 2
5. chaser

and thats all I remember buying this year.
