Not sure what to tell you BiG, I have a slower CPU but the same video card, and I have 4xFSAA/16X AF and all settings maxed and it ran smooth as silk. I suggest lowering or turning off your FSAA and/or AF and see if that helps at all.

Try turning off Dynamic Glow & Shadows...you'll see your fps jump back up then too. I've also noticed w/ the latest Cat's & Fraps they don't like this game much...at least the "version" I have. So the old cl_framerate works well. |

well turning it off made it go to 30 or so... this has to be a ATi issue. now way a radeon 9700 pro should be runnin a game at under 30 fps. its retarded

I'm having no issues at all with this demo. With just about everything turned on....including the dynamic glow and shadows.
I'm playing at 1152 x 864 x 32. I might be able to bump the res up, but it looks and plays great!

Hmm odd....
W/ it off I hit around 75fps at 1280x1024 AA4x/AF8xQ..I'm limited to 75 because of my monitor. Now with those options on I'm hitting around 35-50FPS. |

Everything in the game, all the eye candy. BTW, try turning off triple buffering to see if that will help.

The graphics are good but of course they good be better. I guess that is what happens when you use a graphics engine that finished development in 1998.

It runs faster for me with 16xAF than it does with 8xAF- it also runs faster with texture details set to very high in the game than it does /w it set to just high.. And volumetric shadows cuts out about 10 to 15 frames per second on my rig-
I'm getting a pretty steady 37 to 46 fps at 10 x 7 4xAA. 16xAF AND 12 x 10 w/ 2xAA and 16xAF. Volumetric shadows are what kills the fps. All other options leave to the highest.

I think the volumetric shadown need ALLOT of help in ALL PC games. When the shadows fall on the ground it looks fine, but when they fall on the charactor in the game, they look horrible- all broken up and flashing off and on because of the sharp polygons that make up the figure.. I just played SH3 on my old PS2 and those shadows look better than anything I've ever seen on any PC game rendered by Nvidia or ATI.. It's pretty sad if you ask me- The shadows need to be rounded out- like w/ truform or something, and why in 2003 on a 300 dollar video card, do volumetric shadown cut performance in half? I've been pretty dissapointed by the evolution of PC graphics when it comes to these types of shadows for a while. Look at STVEF2 and turn the shadows on-- it looks like crap to me- Even doom3's sghadows are sub PS2 quality.. I'll take some screenshots and show you what I mean.. No-one will be able to say the shadows look good. I would rather turn them off.

Check out tony hawk 4, it has VERY nice shadows. They have soft edges, conform properly to objects and have their brightness/lenght vary very nicely. They are the best shadows I have ever seen. I think unreal 2 has good shadows like that too, but it might be a different game. |
