Chinese online translation of Harry Potter causes legal storm

TODAY'S PEOPLE'S DAILY claims that an online Chinese translation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has caused a legal storm.

The Chinese version of the book is not officially available until September, but a set of overenthusiastic amateurs had already translated 35 out of the 38 chapters of the book by the beginning of the week.

And that is likely to be viewed with deep disapproval by the owners of the copyright.

Nevertheless, it's unlikely that when the legal blizzards from m'learned fiends arrives, it won't be from the Chinese publisher, as it hasn't got the electronic rights to the book.

The Plagiarism Daily quotes an official from the State Press and Publication Admin that the Chinese copyright law says people who spread works without permission of the lawful holders can be fined and branded criminals.

That's quite interesting, isn't it, People's Daily?
