Hitachi claims small hard drive a real hard case
THE GLOBAL Storage division of Hitachi – which took over IBM's hard drive business earlier this year – claims that a unit it's released today is robust enough to stay alive 24 hours, seven days a week for quite a long time.
The E7K60, claimed Hitachi, is an industrial strength 2.5-inch HDD suitable for blade servers, web hosting and telephony. The firm claimed that the Travelstar unit, which whirrs around at 7200 revs a minute, has a read/write duty cycle of 50%, and claims that's twice the usage cycle of other 2.5-inch drives. The unit is 9.5mm high, contains 60GB of storage, uses two glass platters and four GMR heads, has a 10ms average seek time, weighs 115 grams, and supports 732 power on hours a month. No details of pricing are available. _______________________ Source: TheInquirer |
