Netflix ups Blu-ray surcharge to $9 for heaviest users

It hasn't even been six months since Netflix first imposed a $1 per month surcharge on subscribers who want to rent Blu-ray movies. Now, the company is bumping its rates even higher for almost all subscription tiers, topping out at $9 per month on top of the normal rate. Netflix says it's because Blu-ray discs cost more, but it could be an indication that Blu-ray isn't bringing in new subscribers like the company had hoped.

never understood the economic thinking that comes with "so our product isnt selling lets put the price of it UP"
