2008 Holiday ANTI-Shopping Guide: 15 Products to AVOID

This anti-guide is targeted to a wide range of people. Some are parents who are out of touch with their teenagers (and twenty-somethings). Others are grandparents who think the latest trend-knockoff on QVC would make a perfect gift. Some are girlfriends who just don't know what their technology-enabled boyfriend would want.

Since the economy isn't doing so hot, then why spend money on crap that will find its way to a landfill? Here are some of the things that should be avoided at all costs this holiday season.

In general, unless YOU know what you are doing, and what the recipient wants, the do not buy technology for someone else.

Maybe the only player they actually want is an Ipod touch, and if you can't buy them that, they may be happier with cash towards buying it themselves.

Alternatively, they could be Apple-haters, and the only brand to have would be Creative or Archos.

Alternatively, they could be the type who would only consider features, and would appreciate an off-brand player for what it has - like the typical S1-MP3/MP4 player's undocumented OGG support.

Or SONY, which IMO makes the best sound quality players.

Not a great article, I don't really want other people buying my tech gear for me.

And itunes gift cards? Really? There's no way I'm installing itunes to download low-quality, DRM-filled songs that don't play on my mp3 player.

The whole article was annoying regarding ipods. Perhaps he was born after 2002 or whatever. There are other mp3 players than ipods and using the word ipod to imply mp3 players is just annoying. It's as annoying as other words like podcasts for mp3s with recorded speech/interviews etc even when they are not ipod specific recordings.
