AMD vs. Intel - Which is the Better Processor Right Now?
"For computer enthusiasts, there's been an age-old debate that dates back to the days when we were forced to carry our bits and bytes by hand, uphill both ways, in the freezing cold and feed them manually into a 9600 Baud modem. The argument starts like this: Which is better - AMD or Intel? From there you can bet opinions differ strongly. The real answer has changed over the years, and I'm going to tell which CPU is better!"

Re: AMD vs. Intel - Which is the Better Processor Right Now?
i would disagree... with some of it.
they keep bringing up some of the highest end cpus as being unnessary which i agree .. but completely dropping quad core as being far to expensive and the duo core of the same price being far better for games is.. well.. imo not to accurate. Sure they don't take full advantage of it now... but then again, they think everyone is running super tweaked systems where there is no extra programs running in the background or whatnot... they contradict themselves by stating no games take advantage of it but they want to build a machine that lasts... again we end up with the same story as the single core vs dual core crap... now just about everything is making use of 2 cores... pretty soon 4 core cpu's will be minimum suggested, so on and so forth.. anyone building a machine today, specifically if they are considering gaming, a quad core would definitely be worth the investment, the Q6600's are dirt cheap... and still push excellent gaming figures. And any performance a dual core will have over it will soon be reversed and furthered as time progresses, where that dual core won't be enough and the quad core will still be more then adequate

The processors may be cheap...but the Mainboards aren't. Thy looked at both, and what's what gives AMD the edge in the mainstream sector.
It's not just performance they looked at, it's prive/performance, and that makes a difference.

Re: AMD vs. Intel - Which is the Better Processor Right Now?
As much as I like the low price and guaranteed overclockability of the e8400/8500 I just can't justify upgrading to a dual core cpu when the q6600 is nearly the same price but brings with it all the possibilities quad cores provide.
