Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

As an early adopter, I'm a bit used to being burned by my purchases. Formats die, product availability and support are usually low, and the next revision always does twice as much for half the price. Those assumptions aside, I still feel a bit disappointed with my purchase of Windows Vista, particularly with the recent details of Windows 7 and the strong possibility of it being only a year away.

oh grow up...

that's like complaining about being burned everytime you buy the latest video card only to see a new one available 6-12 months later.....

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

That article was a disgusting mess.

It's a Mac user writing about Windows Vista, attemtping to be objective, but really blows it saying:

"I should qualify that statement by describing my usage habits, though, since Vista does bring a great new search function, an enhanced Media Center, a 3D-accelerated interface, and enhanced security. Simply put, Windows Vista is my gaming OS, and I rely on a MacBook to fulfill my other computing needs."

So I wonder, how much does he know and how much did he read? Or how much has he wanted to get used to?

"Yet I'm still left waiting for the revolutionary user experience akin to Windows 95 that was promised to me."

Who promised him Windows 95? When I bought Vista, I bought into NT and NT's security... (after XP's success, I Was rather convinced of its user-friendliness... which I found to be thrilling)

Also. This pre-SP1 nonsense... I've been using Vista since its final beta build and the only REAL issues I had happened to be with SLi and a VERY small portion of drivers (Which was remedied shortly after Vista's official release). Moreover, he gives the pricepoint of the highest priced, fully featured vista OS (Ultimate), rahter than what most get (Premium, which is significantly cheaper).

This article is a ridiculous waste of my time.
A comment was made after the article by a user that just goes through it and rips it apart... I found that to be hilarious. lol

judas the 'fence sitting'(wich he is) has nothing to do with your 1st comment. his point about it being a kick in the teeth(my word not his) to vista users has some validity. while i understand ms wanting to get out from under the vista name, think it is kinda fkd the way they r doing it. u comparing os upgrade paths to os is silly.
i have vista 64 on my machine & premium on my wifes, very happy with both & dont miss xp one bit. while exitosus makes a point about the articles pricing scheme, if win 7 comes in at the same price as vista, i think it will be a rip. at a minimum they should offer vista users a very substatial discount to get the comparable vers of 7. & it should be considerably cheaper right of the top.
i thought originally win 7 was supposed to be a new kernel? this sounds more like 98 to 98se.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

how much of a kick in the teeth was windows 98 to 98se? you couldn't just "upgrade" straight away... it was a "new" OS.... and they were so close together it couldn't even compare to that of vista and windows 7...

specially if it's delayed and pushed back to Q4 or 2009 or Q1 of 2010

The orginal comment is still sound, the complaint isn't extactly justified as just the way technology progresses..... and if people were to single out any other company like they do microsoft... people would be making similare articles for just about everything constantly.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

I wish I could get 150$ hardware that lasted me 3 years (while remaining "current") which I actually made use of every single day for God knows how many hours.

I love (most) Windows operating systems.
Vista included. It has been a great experience...

I think I'm a rarity, but I've yet to get a BSOD (except from a pair of modded NVIDIA drivers, opps ) lol.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

Is he really whining for a Windows 95 experience? It was a very unstable OS at the release, driver support was far from perfect and application compatibility was not very good as far as I remember. Also, even though my dad considers it the best Windows ever, Windows 3.1 was something that wasn't too difficult to imagine vastly improved: we wanted a fully 32-bit OS (about a decade after 32-bit CPUs went mainstream), filenames with more than 8 charracters and an OS that a poorly coded application won't crash (not that Windows 95 really brought this, but at least it was preemptive).

Vista was an improvement over XP and 7, which will come 3 years after Vista's release, will bring a new improvement. What seems to be the problem with that?

I took it to mean that he was expecting a huge leap forward in look and functionality...like the leap from Win 3.11 to Win 95.

Now that I'm used to it I love my Vista x64, looking forward to Windows 7 but I hope the focus is more on performance than eye-candy for the next version.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

can anyone think of a major improvement that was 95 over 3.1 for vista or windows 7?

i mean to have that major of a change would require the user to have to relearn the gui from scratch completely, nearly.....

but what would it look like, how would it work, what advantages could it possibly provide?

don't fix what isn't broken.... just improve what can be improved.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

people complain when a new OS comes out quickly after the previous one... people complain when an OS doesn't get a new version for a long time.

the only thing that stays the same: people complain.

Re: Windows 7, or Vista Second Edition?

not really..

nothing set in stone....

only thing i've heard is they aren't doing the same thing as vista... well not exactly.... there will be a definite progression from one version to the next, unlike where vista home premium has some features that business edition didn't... course this is rumor...
