Not Everyone Wants Broadband. Seriously.

A new study (.PDF) released Wednesday by the Pew Internet and American Life Project reveals that not everyone wants broadband. Seriously.

According to the study, 55% of adult Americans now have broadband internet connections at home, up from 47% in 2007. Also according to the study, with the increase in broadband adoption, only 10% of Americans have dial-up.

Surely it comes down to price and avaialbility, as i doubt anyone, even the "never change" 19% would turn down broadband at the same price.

Also, what is the dialup system in the US? - in the UK, pay monthly to the ISP and pay for call as well, shattered by 0845 ISPs like Freeserve, gave way to PAYG (pay for the call, no subscription) or pay monthly (freecall), with pay monthly surely set to dies out, as it's generally as expensive as the cheapest broadband.

Dialup is going to end up serving the occasional users, the light users under the impression that "broadband is for downloaders", and those who cannot get broadband.

Even an average browse and email user would find broadband faster and more responsive, while also being able to get away with seriously quota limited "dialup replacement" broadband.

that's bullshit...

the only reason people are stuck on dialup is due to only 3 factors:

1: Computer incapable of using it, aka, it's old and it'll cost to much to retrofit it
2: Cost of highspeed is still in thier eyes, not worth the extra expense
3: It's plain out not available
