AMD 780G Chipset / AMD Athlon X2 4850e Platform Review
Integrated graphics on modern computers is pretty much a joke these days. The Intel G35 platform has the features but not the drivers to support the latest DirectX 10 games, NVIDIA's 7xxx series is still based upon their four year old GeForce 6xxx video cards. AMD released the 690G chipset last year but it is also based upon DirectX 9.0c Pixel and Vertex Shader 3.0 technology and can't keep up with the latest games.
Today AMD is looking to change that with the release of their new 780G platform. This promises to bring integrated graphics fully into the Microsoft DirectX 10 era with full support for Pixel Shader 4.0 and Vertex Shader 4.0. Along with the new chipset AMD is also announcing their energy efficient AMD Athlon™ X2 4850e dual-core processor which is a 45W max power draw CPU that is identical to the 65W TDP 4800 X2 that was released last year except that the maximum TDP is 45W instead of the 65W the older CPU had. ____________ Review: Motherboards.org |
