Further Radeon HD 3870 X2 Reviews
Review: Extremetech
______________ We have seen this method of accelerating "single-card" graphics performance before—you take two mid-range graphics chips and stuff them together into one double-wide card that fits into a single slot. It goes all the way back to ATI's old Rage Fury Maxx, actually. More recently, there were cards like the GeForce 7950 GX2, and even ATI's own Radeon HD 2600 X2, which didn't really do too well. Review: Anandtech _______________ Last May, AMD introduced its much delayed Radeon HD 2900 XT at $399. In a highly unexpected move, AMD indicated that it would not be introducing any higher end graphics cards. We discussed this in our original 2900 XT review. Review: Digit-Life _______________ We've tested four 3870 X2 cards from HIS, MSI, Powerolor (TUL), and GeCube. The first three copy the reference design (MSI card is overclocked though). And GeCube has customized its product in a rather unique way. Review: Firingsquad _______________ What happens when you take two RV670 GPUs clocked at over 800MHz and combine them onto one board with 1GB of memory? The Radeon HD 3870 X2 of course. Review: Legit-Reviews _______________ The ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 video card (known internally as the R680) was first seen by the world right here on Legit Reviews a few months ago and was again spotted at CES 2008, where the the retail card was seen. Everyone knew that the launch was close, but today is the day that the card is officially announced. The ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 is a single-board with multiple-GPUs on it, which is why the card is so interesting. ATI took two RV670 cores (Radeon HD 3870) and put them on the same PCB with the same amount of memory with the bridge chip already on the video card that enabled CrossFire automatically. The result is a graphics card that has two RV670 cores with 1GB of GDDR3 memory at a price point of $449, which puts it in competition with the GeForce 8800 GTX and the GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards by NVIDIA.
