CompUSA to Call it Quits

Source: Tech-Ex
________
My thought is Carlos Slim, wanting to keep his status as (arguably) richest man in the world, has decided to stop throwing money down a hole. CompUSA will shut down after the holiday season.

Slim has owned CompUSA since 2000. It's a subsidiary of his U.S. Commercial Corp S.A.B. de C.V. company. Since owning it, he has $1.5 billion in the chain over eight years, yet failed to turn it around.

Things already looked grim for CompUSA when they shut half their stores within a three month period, starting in February. Competition from stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and (who else) Wal-Mart, proved too much.

never cared for CompUSA...
rather have Fryes or even Best buy...
just the prices, I could go across the street to Walmart and save ten percent on the price of anything in CompUSA..how in the hell could they survive..
This will definitely hit the strip malls hard...

That's different from my experience. Here in Cincinnati, CompUSA was almost always cheaper.

Of course we have Circuit City, and Best Buy, with MicroCenter thrown into the mix, so maybe the extra competition helped.

I like CompUSA for the simple fact that they carry all the little things you can't find or buy in lets say Circuit City or BestBuys but CompUSA has outrages prices sometimes marked up 200% and for that I am glad to see them go under besides who really pays full retail price noways for anything anyway when you have Newegg and TigerDirect around.

i can say two things about them

pro: like stated earlier, they did have all the accesories you would need for a PC

con: like said earlier, everything they had was well over-priced.

Well I hope all these stores go out of business one day. They all rip you off anyway. Honestly you could always get things cheaper online anyway. I bought my Flat Screen 42" LCD TV online, from a site I never went to, and it works great.
