Multi-Core Confrontation: Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs. Core 2 Duo E6850 @ Xbit-Labs

Review: Xbit-Labs
_______________
While AMD keeps postponing the launch of their quad-core processors to the end of this year – beginning of next, Intel Company is offering very affordable quad-core CPUs from Core 2 Quad family. However, can Core 2 Quad processors be regarded as a worthy alternative to popular dual-core solutions?

Great review, glad this was posted as I was recently faced with the choice of which processor to buy from those two.
I'm glad I chose the Q6600 even if it is the B3 stepping, it's still a beast. Have to mention that with my Q6600 at 3ghz and a Thermalright Ultima 90-i my core temps very rarely top 60c. Should see me future proofed for a while which was my goal.

nothing wrong with Q6600 B3 stepping, you just didn't know when another stepping was going to be available in the store.

there is no doubt Q6600 has better value than E6850, and about double what it was before with its price is now lower than the E6850 (in some part of the world), and the GO stepping are available everywhere now.

nice wee article.
when you consider how much high end SK478 P4's cost not that long ago, not to mention AM2's, we consumers are having a ball atm with the likes of the Q6600

i just looked at old price list, not long ago Q6600 used to be priced even more than two E6850's.

and not very long ago at all the Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955 (3.46GHz 1066 MHz B1 2MBx2MB) used to be priced = 4x Q6600's (of today price)
