Deja Vu? AMD's Last Gambit
Source: Real World Technologies
___________ In 2002, AMD’s K7 was lagging behind the high frequency 130nm Pentium 4 (Northwood). The 2003 launch of the K8 was a bet-the-company kind of move for AMD. But, by 2005, they had clearly hit the jackpot with the K8 microprocessor. They had three out of four of the major OEMs pitching their server products and Intel’s products barely kept pace in the UP (1 socket) and DP (2 socket) server markets. In the MP (4 socket) server market, AMD was clearly the best choice by a wide margin.

Going Insane.....

so basically this chip is the kind of last remaining deciding factor for the fate of the company....... i really hope it saves them, because with the way things look..... they could die if it cant beat Penryn.... it looks like it has a somewhat better architecture, but the penryn is basically the brute force pumped big bro of the QX6700 and we dont know if the chip can top 5GHz since it has some other modifications besides simple die-shrink

i read an even more indepth article comparing the current amd, barcelona, core 2 dou/quad as well as the next gen intel right down the nitty gritty, and everything seems to be leaning towards AMD having the upper hand as intel takes the leap at higher ghz again while amd is looking for more juice out of the current ghz range.

Yeah I wanna see that!
I just don't think Intel is going to be that dumb or i hope not. They need to get as much work done as possible with these cores, the c2d made a terrific point, and they need to keep that going.

that's the thing.. i tried to find it 2 weeks ago when something about the barcelona and intel news came up.... i can't find the freaking thing.. i can't remember who wrote it up, but it was about 4 times as long as this one and even further indepth.... i've been googling it yesterday for about 2 hours.. and could find a damn thing.. (majority of the hits were absalute garbage.. wish google would allow us to put in a filter to get rid of Selling/buying websites and crap like that)
