China made over 50 million notebooks from Jan-Oct

There were 50.08 million notebook PCs produced in China during January-October of 2006, growing by 40.0% on year, according to statistics published by China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) on its Chinese-language web site.

Sorry, this may sound stupid but I dont know much abt Taiwan - is it an independent country or part of china? I know there is some history involved in this issue.

The reason I mention this is, 50 million notebooks in less than a year is huge by any standards. Considering how hot taiwan is for notebook ODMs, I was just wondering if it includes taiwan's share. Leading notebook manufactueres individually sell around 13-14 million or so this year so this number is pretty big.

Anyone knows about it?

If you ask Mainland China, they will say they are NOT separate. If you ask Taiwan and in reality, they are separate, at least for now (and I say that because China wants to take Taiwan back).
