Kingston Technology Releases 4-GB ValueRAM DDR2 DIMMs
Source: Kingston
__________ Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced the release of 4-GB 533 MHz and 667 MHz ValueRAM DDR2 registered ECC DIMM memory modules. The advent of new larger capacity, high-performance memory, combined with AMD Opteron processors, the latest in processor technology, and cutting-edge TYAN motherboards meets the critical performance demands of high-end computing and server applications. “The new Kingston 4-GB 533 and 667 MHz DDR2 DIMMs are designed to support the growing need for high-density memory in AMD Opteron processor-based servers,” said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston. “By partnering with technology companies such as AMD and TYAN, we are enabling our customers to deliver quality servers to the market,” added Tekunoff.

i'm still awaiting the 4gb dual channel kits to arrive. if they can release a 4gb kit (2x 2gb) at good latencies and at under $400 i'll be quite impressed.

DDR2 533mhz, just some generic..
i don't actually have any on the way.. i'm just wondering and waiting for some to finally show up on the market. This way we don't have to run 4 sticks of ram to get 4gb of ram, (which 4 sticks usually always results in a less stable machine at high clocks and throwing the possibility of overclocking out the door).

these are the Kingston's kit of 2 (2x 2GB) that can be used on some desktop boards.
the Non-ECC DIMM are having prices around $750 - $850.-, and around $1,000.- for the ECC DIMMs, check their prices again... KVR533D2N4K2/4G - 4GB 533MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL4 KVR533D2E4K2/4G - 4GB 533MHz DDR2 ECC CL4 KVR667D2N5K2/4G - 4GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 KVR667D2E5K2/4G - 4GB 667MHz DDR2 ECC CL5 there are now many 2x 2GB DDR2 533MHz and 667MHz DIMMs, but most of them are good for server boards. |

Yeah, but the consumer market or enthusiast... it's not all that common yet, just a pile of faster and faster 2x1gb kits.

not very long time ago there was just a few DDR2 533MHz in 2 x 2GB that was suitable for desktop platform, but now there are more and more, so the demand on 4 GB system do exists in other areas, not just in server/workstation environments. however the demand on 4 GB for the gaming enthusiast is just not enough at this time.

i'm expecting with the launch of the unreal engine and other games that could compete with it, to fuel the demand for more memory though
