Cool! Inquirerer: "Geforce FX is 4 Pipelines and 2 TMUs"

The Inquirerer has got the story on FX only having 4x2 pipelines instead of the 8x1 that nVidia PR has been pushing.

This would explain a LOT about why they're whining about 3dm2k3 so much, and it could mean some REAL trouble for a video card that IMHO has re-defined "REAL trouble" at least twice already!

Has anyone heard ANY good news about nVidia lately? They're not returning my e-mails again...

they are too "important" to return emails.

seriously though, their PR sucks, just like the FX.

well aint that an original argument (from 1999)

btw I recently borrowed a 4400 video card to test some beta driver sets, and I have to say alot of the new Nvidia drivers really are substandard.

A-FREAKING-men to that! Out of the last 4-5 beta sets there's only been 1 or 2 that DON'T give me massive graphics corruption in some games.

I'm not talking "a glitch or two" here, I'm talking the textures layed inverted and skewed on the characters so it looks like some Picasso induced nightmare or something.

Don't go there nForcer, your team is in a hell of a slump right now and I think the best way to support them is to try like hell not to bring them up!

I can't think of a single area that nVidia is beating ATI...except motherboards.

LOL Whatever!
I sure see a hell of a lot of companies favoring ATI taking stabs at nVidia, whereas I don't see any (or very few) nVidia companies taking stabs at ATI.

Just shows who has more class.

Competition is good - thats about the only thing you can say about the whole thing. Nuff said.

Yes, the football jock who broke his leg has a lot of class to not make fun of the 2nd-string player who worked hard and took his spot.

How's about a quality product and not lying out their wazzoo? Me thinks those are much more important factors. Check out this little blurb from Tech Report:

Quote:
After seeing this report at The Inquirer, we asked NVIDIA for clarification: Does the GeForce FX have four rendering pipes with two texture units each or eight with one each, as the world was led to believe? Here's the answer we received from NVIDIA:

GeForce FX 5800 and 5800 Ultra run at 8 pixels per clock for all of the following:
a) z-rendering
b) stencil operations
c) texture operations
d) shader operations

For advanced applications (such as Doom3) *most* of the time is spent in these modes because of the advanced shadowing techniques that use shadow buffers, stencil testing and next-generation shaders that are longer and therefore make the apps "shading-bound" rather than "color fill-rate" bound.
Only color+Z rendering is done at 4 pixels per clock, all other modes (z, stencil, texture, shading) run at 8 pixels per clock.

The more advanced the application, the less percentage of total rendering is color, because more time is spent texturing, shading and doing advanced shadowing/lighting.

We will unpack this statement for you shortly, but it appears Fraud at The Inq got this one right.
ROFLMFAO~~~~~~~~~~~

(I only enjoy this so much since they were awful about e-mails with me, honest. )
