MILAN - Giants like Yahoo, Google and Microsoft, as well as upstarts like Skype, have been slugging it out for the attention of computer users for years. Now these companies and other notables of the PC arena are beginning to tussle in the wireless world, where they seem set to change the landscape.
Last month, Yahoo and 3 Group, the cellphone company owned by Hutchison Whampoa, signed an accord to make Yahoo services - including search functions, instant messaging and country-specific content - available to 3's subscribers. The first services will be available on 3's British network in the coming weeks, with Italy, Ireland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Australia soon to follow.
