Snowday
Don't you just love it when the weather forcasters predict a dusting of snow and you wake up the next morning to eight inches of dry powder snow with temps hovering around +5f and windchills in the -15f to -25f degree range. The snow is not a biggie here in the mountains of Virginia, but how the heck do you guys that live in the cold climates of the world make it through temps that I'm sure drop much further then stated above. I like cold weather but it's dang cold outside.

This referred to cyborgs post, -27C and -38C in Winnipeg.
Yes, it's Celsius. We get -20C about once every 2 years, but I hear in Canada they take wind into acount somehow.
You know, if you have a moustache, you can 'read' low temps aproximately - about -5C come the first signs of frosting, and at -20 you start speaking funny because the frozen moustache blocks your upper lip

That reminds me of a few years ago when I was working 2-10 shift. It started snowing at
about 11 o'clock that morning so I set off for work at 12. It was only a 12 mile drive and
normally took about 45 mins. By the time I set off the snow was starting to stick on the
roads. I finally got to work 7 hrs later !!

On the news last week there was a story about a cold snap in Russia. The temperature was -25C INSIDE the houses. Pretty tough those Russkies.

I love it too, but not when it drifts 25 inches in front of your door at night from the winds. To make matters worse the pipes froze up in the downstairs bathroom going to the shower/bath. That room always is colder then any other part of the house. I turned on a space heater and placed it in there last night but that did not help. I've been working to get them thawed out, but until the temps come up some I'm not sure it's going to happen.

I would have done anything to not go to work today, but since I'm stuck in Quebec, snow days are non-existant (even at -40C or 20 inches of snow). If Quebec's road crew where less prepared for winter, I would have been at home the last 2 days. Bummer
And here in Canuck land, we do take wind factor into account because of the hot air system that rises from the US and the cold air plumeling down from Russia and Antartica making our temperature drop from 5 to 15 celcius (on average). Plus we like to complain for nothing.

It isn't as bad in my area, though we have alternating seasons... we have fire season and mudslide season. During mudslide season, burned hills fall down and block the roads and in fire seasons, hills are burned by nature in preparation for mudslide season Smog actually isn't that bad at all during non-fire season, but when there is a fire locally, it just rains ash...
