V-sign driver is banned
Quote:
A motorist who made V-signs at a police speed camera has been convicted of dangerous driving and banned for a year.
Sean Toehill, 21, took both hands off the steering wheel to make the gesture, although Cupar sheriff court, Fife, heard that he was not speeding and did not lose control.
Toehill, of Cupar, said afterwards: "I think it's incredibly harsh. Just because I'm a young guy, they want to make an example of me.
"I can't believe that speed cameras can be used in this way. I thought they were to catch speeding drivers."

I heard that the using the V-sign in the UK is the same as using your middle finger here in the States. Is that true?

"The UK insulting version (performed with the palm inwards), performs a similar social function to "the finger". It is almost certainly unrelated in origin, as the insulting V sign is largely restricted to the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and Spain, where it is popular amoung taxi drivers in Madrid. "The finger" is also traceable to Roman times. The insulting V sign is not widely recognized in the United States, with the notable exception of fans of British punk music."

What is the damn v sign!? Someone take a picture!
And by the way, the middle finger is from medieval times, the enemy would capture the archers and cut all of their fingers off except their middle (so they couldn't shoot a bow and arrow any more). So when they went into battle they would hold up a middle finger to all of the archers, to show them what they would do. Just a little factoid

Oh, thanks, and you would need two arms to do that? In the US the cop would be like what the hell, 1.... 2.... damn he's gone....

I found this thread actually to be interesting and informative.
Due to cold weather, I've been driving with my windows up and, when there are times that another driver is kind enough to let me pull out of a parking lot or side street in order to get into traffic, I've been giving the "V" sign with palm toward me. That's because there's not enough room to turn my arm around and do it like I'd prefer to do.
I just hope these people aren't aware of this 'alternative' meaning. AND, I guess I'll be more inclined to just wave from now on.
