Congrats!

Many happy returns of the day!

But I thought 1k=1024 in the computer world...

Btw, a little known fact (I just found out ), kilobyte is actually 1000 bytes.
The 1024 bytes is really called kibibyte (ki- for kilo, bi- for binary)

A kilobyte is most definitely 1024 bytes - reformist bastards with no sense of linguistic aesthetics call kilobytes kibibytes (which totally ruins the sound man!)... The kibibyte movement may be the most subversive and destructive the world has ever seen I really don't know how widespread that kibibyte stuff has gotten since I last heard of it, but I haven't seen anyone use it without cracking a smile before (and you have 2 smilies there ), so I don't think its exactly widespread...

Exactly that. The UK is apparently "metric" yet we measure distance and speed in miles and drink our beer in pints

Reminded me of this one..

Lady in butchers shop
"A pound of sausages please"

"It's kilos now"

"A pound of kilos then, please"

We should be more like the French - if they don't like a bit of the Euro-rules, they just ignore them, like continuing to ban our beef after it's been declared safe.

European union! - what a joke! - Europe is composed of SEPARATE countries, with different language, customs and economies, and one size does NOT fit all.

Save the Pound! - and reinstate the pound, the Gallon etc.

Reformist? If things stayed the way they were before, . . . Kilo has always meant 1000 ! It's YOUR little buddies who changed it to mean 1024 So if you want to be traditional, (and uh use it the same way as in weight, volume, distance, pressure, etc.) you will say kilo = 1000, so

. . . dam liberals

whenever i say kilobyte i always will mean 1024 bytes. just like when i say megabyte, i mean 1048576 bytes. computers don't count by tens, they count by twos. so when referring to a computer number, refer to it in twos.

thank you.

Kilo = Thousand

Byte = 2^3 bits

Kilobyte = 2^10 bytes OR 1000*(2^3)

Kibibyte = 2^10 bytes

Kilobyte = 2^10 bytes = 1024

Vampy is correct, actually.

"Kibibyte" has been proposed to represent the value of 1,024 bytes. The bi is a shortened form of binary. Binary is the reason we have this confusion.

Therefore, kilobyte actually does mean 1,000 bytes (10^3) because it is a base-10 value, while kibibyte is 1,024 bytes (2^10) because of its binary nature.

But I'll never ever use these stupid new standards.
