PSP Firmware 2.0 Downgrader. It's real.
Ok only 2 days after an buffer overflow exploit was discovered for V2.0 a downgrader has been created that actually works. This will take your shiny new PSP down to V1.50 opening up a world of homebrew and fun.
If anyone responds to this topic please remember that downloading or discussing illegal downloads could land people and this site in trouble so post with caution.
Mods feel free to remove this post if it has the potential to cause worry.
http://pspupdates.qj.net/ for downgrader.
Edit: Not bumping this but the downgrader sever is going nuts, may take a while to get it so be patient.

Ok complicated instructions but I stuck with it and it's 100% legit. Ive just gone from 2.00 to 1.50.
If anyone needs any help let me know and i'll do my best.
P.S Just thought I better cover my ass. This worked 100% for me first time but I accept no responsibilty if you manage to fubar your PSP (Besides if im honest you'd be lucky to get a runnerbean from me in court ).

Ok ive been playing with it for an hour now (yeah stop sniggering I meant my PSP) and I can't believe the stuff ive been missing out on. Got a load of new legal apps to try like a nifty notepad tool and a media player.
One thing I will make people aware of is that to play the most recent games you are going to have to download a nifty program from the WAB team that tricks your PSP into thinking it's anything from 1.00 to 2.00 with everything in between. Try googling for the WAB tool as I need to doublecheck Driverheavens policy on direct links (yes I know ive done it already but it was to good to miss out on).

Hmm. Might pick it up tomorrow with Burnout.
Anything I should know before I do though?

Just that you'll love it. I was a little sceptical about the whole handheld thing at first but I' don't regret my purchase one little bit. Oh and I have Burnout and it's incredibly addictive, as is PGA golf.

I can't upload custom stuff with the 2.0 Firmware like movies and free (open source?) games right? Could I downgrade a retail store-bought 2.0 to 1.5 with that app and then use those things?

yea thats the whole point because the retail PSP's are now 2.0 you buy one and use that program to downgrade it to 1.5

Just a note though, daedal: some games require that you have v.1.52 firmware or higher in order to run. Burnout Legends, for instance, requires you to have a 1.52 firmware otherwise it will not start. However, if you run an app like PSP UMD Loader, or FastLoader (up to v0.8) you can bypass the forced upgrade of the game, and directly boot the UMD. This should work fine for you until a game comes along that requires some function in the v.2.00 firmware to run.
BTW: Alternate download at PSP-Vault.

Sweet. I'll look into it.
I'll probably be posting loads of questions on it in the next few days then.

Once a hole has been found, the hole is never to be closed. There isn't a single thing they can do that will close what has already started. The only thing they can do is anoy the regular people. I still havent and dont plan on buying a PSP. Id get a DS b4 I got a Psp and those are more homebrew friendly.... if it just had some games worth playing..... even for 'lower cost' lol.
