repacled my "hi-fi" speaker stands with some heavy duty studio grade ones, and replaced the ikea monitor stands with a home-made bridge - raise the monitors to an ergonomic height and make more space underneath for gear - got my new valve preamp on top of my mbox2 pro, microKORG next to that and then finally my trusty soundcraft compact4 mixer

you may notice a logitech centre speaker on the top level of the desk, the front speakers from that set are actually hanging off the sides of my studio monitors (just visible in the pic) - i hang the surround speakers on mic stands when i do surround-sound stuff
