Firmware 2.00... When?
Wasn't the PSP firmware 2 supposed to come out yesterday? I don't see it up on their main site.

Got delayed until the 15th. No "real" reason given except for THIS posting in forums.

Nice to see Sony give valid reasoning and apolgies for delays to updates, not.

BTW: I notice a post by Iria that mentioned the delay in the firmware, but I also noticed another post Iria made about the fact that someone was able to run a homebrew app by tricking the PSP into thinking it was a 2.1 firmware update (check that posting HERE). I remember someone else posting about this on the PSPHacks site, and everyone laughed him off. Seems that someone was actually able to get it to work. If this is true it might explain the delay in the 2.0 release. Sony could be trying to fix this "loophole" before they release it.
My advice: since the Jap 2.0 firmware works perfectly fine on the NorthAm systems, and if anyone intends to use homebrew apps using that loophole.. then download the Jap firmware fast. If Sony does plug that hole they will update the Jap version as well as the NorthAm one. At least this way you can benifit from the 2.0 update, yet still run the homebrew stuff if Sony does plug the hole.

The update will be by "Network Update" first, then by internet off their site. However, I just checked it, and it's still version 1.52.
Don't know why they haven't released it yet (except for the theoretical reasons I've made). Could be because of the exploit in the updater, or maybe they want to wait until the Euro release. Not sure.

As of now? No idea.
Logical guess would be near to or on Sept.1 when the Euro PSP is launched, but the ball is in Sonys court. Until they say otherwise that's all we can do.

The rumor was the 12th, and even the local Sony rep sad it was coming out then. GameSpot posted stating they were told by Sony it would be out on the 15th, and this was confirmed by Sony in a post to their forums that it would be out the "week of" the 15th. However, there was never an "official" date from them.
Thing was all the "rumors" had a basis in truth as the 2 NorthAm firmware releases were 2 weeks after the Japanese versions. So, everyone figured August 12th would be the day. The day came and went. No firmware. Now the week of the 15th has come and gone. Still no US firmware.
However, as the date for the Euro release inchs ever closer, my bet would be we'll see it around September 1rst. Come to think of it, didn't I mention something about this back in May in regards to the browser, and hoping Sony doesn't put off releasing support for it 'till the Euro release? Wonder if Sony was reading that, and thought it'd be a good idea. Shoulda kept my mouth shut...
So, does anyone want to start a pool? You won't get squat for winning.. 'cept bragging rights.
Edit: just editing this as I had forgetten the posting from Sony.

Well the system is great when you get more memory! I got a gig stick off zipzoomfly for about $100 and with that I put lots of music on and movies or what every you want! It's a great new toy for me that I can use on the go.

Here's an update for you:
Sony (SCEA) posted into the forums today with THIS little announcement (actually, they edited the original posting with the new info):
" The PSP Firmware 2.0 Upgrade for the North American market will be available during the week of August 22nd.
Designed to compliment the comprehensive entertainment experience of games, movies, music, photos and wireless connectivity provided by the revolutionary portable device, the firmware 2.0 upgrade will allow users to take advantage of the unit’s built-in Wi-Fi capability and wirelessly search the Internet from Internet Access Points or hot spots. The firmware 2.0 upgrade will be available for download directly to a PSP using a Wi-Fi connection or downloaded to a PC from http://us.playstation.com/psp and transferred to a PSP through a USB cable."
Yeah.. right.. we'll see....
