Saw the movie on friday, very very well done. Natalie Portman is gorgeous and does a great job as an actress. I heard N'Sync was in the movie but were killed quickly or some shit like that. Apparantly George Lucas asked his daughter to choose anyone / group to be in the movie and the gir chose Nsync.
Personally i would have gone with George Carlin!

Saw the movie - much better than Phantom Menace.
Is it me, or were they dressing Natalie Portman like Princess Leia with the buns in her hair? Oh well. Se started the film with lots of clothes - and thanks to a few fight scenes the clothes gradually came off
Gotta say that the Yoda fight was unbelievable! Superbly done - especially when he uses the force to retreive his walking stick afterwards
But the real star of the film was easily R2D2 - dammit I can't believe that the plucky little droid actually flew
Now I wanna see spiderman!

Nice, but frankly I found it unbelievable - similar to "author intrusion"

Hmm, now George, explain how R2D2 doesn't fly in the "future" films, or how 'Ben' Kenobi says "I don't recall owning any droids, especially this little fellow"

Are the star wars films meant to be "believable" anyway? I mean its just pure escapism to get away from the mundane of everyday boring life... people sit sometimes when watching these films and actually look for flaws or little mistakes in the films so they can go online to the fan sites and post the mistakes for further dissection.... I mean its understandable if its a major cockup but some of these things are so insignificant.
sometimes its better to just "switch off" when watching these kind of movies, and just pretend you are a kid again ... well it works for me anyway

R2D2 doesn't fly because it isn't in the script. Also, thinking back, I don't recall any scenes where R2 would actually need to fly. Im pretty sure that they gave him flying ability purely for the "oooh aaaaar" factor.
Please note key emphasis on the word "own". Throughout phantom and aotc, obi wan has only had brief contact with either of the two droids. The better question to ask is why in A New Hope C3PO doesn't recognise bit on Tattoine that they goto in AOTC. But I thought it was a nice touch that Anakin met Owen and Peru

There is a bit in Return of the Jedi - the bit in the desert where they have to walkthe planks (excuse primary school level of grammar; it's Monday morning and I don't want to be here, my head hurts, and I can't think straight)

I was going to raise a similar point, along with why they don't recognise the farm, Owen, Luke (even if just for 3PO to ask "are you related to Anakin Skywalker, by any chance, Master Luke"). My guess is that Lucas will try to use this as R2 doggedly wanting to get to Luke in ANH - the bit where the other droid malfuctions will be re-invented as R2's work...

Beleiveable was the wrong word to use. Yes, when I watch film's I just suspend reality - isn't that real mark of a good film, you forget it's a film, with actors, and only make-believe, and become absorbed. The "intrusion" factor is when something happens to interrupt that. A good book is the same, and there is a writer's mistake called "author intrusion". An example, the cliche "his eyes slid down her dress". For some reason, it "wakes people up", for lack of a better phrase.
Star Wars was a major turning point in the cinema - someone once encapsulated it as "space ships that were not all pristine condition, clean lines and pencil shaped - instead, they looked workman like, and looked as though they had been kicked around the galaxy". The basic story line is good vs evil, with an underlying love tone. Yet for a science fiction film it draws upon the good old Western and the great war films - the Empire draw's heavily on WWII German costume, and the final battle is reminiscent of The Battle of Britiain. Hey, some of those dogfights were right out of that film.
Wow, getting carried away here. I loved Star Wars. Was 10 -11 yrs old when it came out, and saw the Tomorrow's World episode where they showed highlights of the final battle. Hooked. Saw the film 2.1 times the first day (arrived a little too early, so I could see that fantastic battle!). ESB was better in many ways, and RoTJ was ok. PM was, to put it mildly, crap. And I don't think Lucas has done a great job of describing Anakin's move to the dark side. It's being done bluntly subtle, if that makes sense, relying on the tag line from PM - "anger leads to..." (subtle), and too many outbursts from Anakin "I will be the most powerful jedi" (blunt). Ach, there ahain, given the drastic alterations he has made to the timescales of the SW universe in the last few years, it's not suprising. Still, look forwards to the next episode (2 years? 3?), and hopefully epsisodes 4, 5 and 6 on DVD. Hopefully, if he does 'remake' them, he will at least release the 'originals' (well, the remastered versions!)
