FTC kicks Compusa in the buttocks
I hate the rebate policy of many stores including Bestbuy or Compusa and it was refreshing to see that the FTC fined and spanked Compusa for creating the perception that they honor rebates to consumers.
Would you all buy from either store or another based on rebates? I have had hit or miss success with rebates and frankly dont buy based on that anymore.
Rebates are a scam or sham IMO, but I am sure honest vendors exist, what do you all think?

I try to stay away from those mail in rebates as much as possible. If the rebate is applied at the point of checkout, then i'm fine with that. A penny saved is a penny earned. Or is it the other way around

i would rather save 20.00 instantly than to have a company collect interest off of my 50.00 or 75.00 for two or three months and then maybe not send it back to me.what a scam.

I feel the same way, Compusa got it right in the keester when the consumers and the FTC took them to court and won a judgement. Compusa employed illegal practices and bait and switch...no wonder they have trouble competing

I've bought things with rebates.. can be a great deal as long as it doesn't take 4 months to get the money back.

If I want/need it...I buy it so long as I can afford it.
That being said, I look at the RETAIL price when buying things, not the "post rebate sale price" they want me to look at

What I hate is Fry's. They post ads in the paper...theres the ad for a price. I go to the store. I get back to the item. I go to buy it. "SORRY the ad in the paper was wrong. we have to sell it for a higher price" "THATS BAIT-AND-SWITCH!" "No its not, because we have a 3rd party set up our ads and it was their mistake. not ours" "THATS BULLSHTI! By Washington State law you still must sell it at the advertised price NO MATTER WHAT!" and they argued with me and I tried to call the police, but their rent-a-cops kicked me out. I was pissed.

i worked for best buy for a short time. Never really had a problem with their rebates. I also worked for CompUSA and let me tell you .... they are not in the same realm. CompUSA is very shady even to there own employees... i did there onsite stuff and it took me 3 months to get my expenses back from them. I would never shop with them.
Bestbuy may be annoying but they do have a rebate tracker on their site to check on your rebates. I usualy get theirs back faster now.
Funny part this is what i do now www.oisi.com

I just got back a check from Epson. I bought the printer in December, I got the rebate check back in April. 6-8 weeks is the biggest lie ever lol

I feel that rebates if they are swift and ethical are great, but I have had some bad luck with Bestbuy and Compusa, therefore I dont buy anything from them without the research first, we have a few Mom and pop places that charge a little more but they give excellent service, which is more than I can say for either Bestbuy or Compusa.
