What's the Fascination with "Reality" TV?
I just saw where Britney Spears and hubby will be starring in their own 'reality' TV series. Ugh!!
For the life of me, I can't understand what the fascination is with this genre of programming. Honestly! I mean, there's nothing 'real' in this 'reality' stuff. Once a camera is present and running, the whole thing's pretty much scripted.
So, just what is the appeal to this?

Well it might be real but you know, people who don't have a life of their own will watch this cuz their own lives are too boring. I mean, my life is full of drama non stop and I have no need to watch it. I might watch it a bit to see Britney but apart from that... God knows why people watch!

its just the new thing. Its what the networks are putting on, so people watch it. The networks put it on to save money on having to pay actors. Teh actors labor unions have driven their wages up so high, to save money, the networks create a reality show. The shows are a fraction, and I mean that, of the cost than to run even a cheap sitcom. They create them, make a 10000% profit, and give the finger to the labor unions. its pretty interesting to see economics at work within the television industry.
I think the people eat it up so they don't feel so pathetic, cause lets face it, reality shows are the lowest of the low and generally the people on them are as well. its silly to even call them reality shows.

TV is pretty lame in general. I don't own a tv, and haven't watched one alone in years, I only watch them when I'm with friends, and we're talking, or doing something else at the same time.

Yea, I always tell people if they pop a few cameras in and around my house, they'll get the next Big Brother!
I mean seriously, some of that stuff makes me sick as it is so pointless, my head wants to pop off. Though there was a bit of a good season of "The Block" that went on down here in SA, it was about as real as I've ever seen "reality TV" getting, bout as real as it ever will get I think as well too.
I don't watch the stuff, unless my siblings force me too, one of these days I tell you, I'm going to have to hire a Hitman to kill off the big reality producers from this earth, once and for all.
And nuG, maybe that's because when you've got it "hooked up", you're probably playing it and they can't watch T.V.?

Has anyone seen The Contender? Sylvester Stallone is some sort of inspirational "coach" - and all he ever did was play a boxer. No "reality" needed.
It's been said again and again - Just because your life is pathetic doesn't mean you need to watch someone else's. That only makes things worse.

I like watching american idol at the beginning when all the idiots who think they can sing are on. I watched the first simple life every once in a while because nicole richie is hot. And then I watched the first couple seasons of survivor because it was interesting. I've found a few other random reality tv shows that I found interesting and watched them if I stumbled across them. Big brother was the only one I would actually make sure I sat down and watch.
Does it bother you that reality tv is on? Just change the channel! If you stop listening to popular thought and actually think what you want to think, some of the stuff is pretty entertaining.
The goal isn't to make an award winning show that challenges the brain and learns you all at once, it's to entertain you for a half hour. If you find yourself watching it and being entertained, then don't feel guilty. You're allowed to like whatever the hell you want.
Exception: soap operas. :P

No. Feel ignorant. The only "quality" programming I've seen on T.V. for ten years is Adult Swim. I'm glad they concieved a hilarious and intelligent alternative for my demographic, nonetheless integrating cartoon icons from my childhood all in the same block of programming.

Yeah, but if you're a "hardcore reality T.V. fan", you're probably not the brightest light bulb in the box. T.V. is evil, play more video games. At least you'll know how to shoot someone afterwards!
