dvds-warehouse
Hi. I wandered into your forum via google as I had a problem logging into dvds-warehouse.com today.
Maybe they are now defunct, but I can give you some info. Picking up a lead from a bargain-dvd email,
I went in & bought 15 dvds for $150 (Paid by personal check). 9 of them were "legit" releases, ie, available in US--but these were
variously asian (thai, chinese)(mostly) or other non-us prints; at least one was canadian (nice). These
were of acceptable to expected (ie,like US release) quality, for the most part no problems.
The other 6 were another matter: one was clearly a dub of a screener (Lord of the Rings/Fellowship)
& it played quite well for a while then stalled & skipped. Examination of the read side showed obvious
sort of "ring" defects which accounted for the inability of the laser to track it.
Same was true for The Others (not in releast at that time!), except no screener indicators--looked like a
clean, color-rich print--until it stalled & skipped a couple of chapters in.
The other 4 were also non-released (Blade-II, Resident Evil, Showtime and A Beautiful Mind.) These were
just totally unacceptable prints--and I'm a dvdophile but not a snob. They looked like some of the vhs
boot prints friends have shown me. You know, the ones where some clown with a vidcam tapes the screen
and boots it.
Here's the good news: I wrote their customer service about the shit-quality of the 6 dvds. A very kind &
responsive person named Kelly wrote right back & told me to choose 6 more dvds (she suggested the NOT
be from the "new" listings--you see the trend here?). She sent me 6 other titles promptly and did not even
want the duds back--they are going in the trash.
The orders & emails process in LA but the shipments come from deep asia somewhere, properly packaged
& arriving faster than might be expected.
So, if they are still in business, use these guidelines to get some bargain titles and avoid getting
bootleg-quality or defective prints by choosing only currently in-release (in US) titles.
(I think that some of these "bad" prints may be legit prints in the country of origin--maybe they have an
earlier release there--and the quality standards are just lacking. Making them "grey-area" releases here.
Or maybe they are out-and-out boots making them clearly illegal.)
Hope this helps someone.
