Joe Satriani should be higher on the list, otherwise not a bad list of guitar solos.

I suppose it depends if you rate a guitar solo on technical prowess or feeling. I wouldnt have stairway to heaven in the top 10 on either of those categories. Eruption was a good showcase for eddie in the days he wouldnt play facing the crowd incase anyone else copied his hammerons before he became famous but as an all round solo, well.....
some great tracks in there mind you !

Can't agree with you there -
Where's Frank Zappa's " F*ck Yourself"? The song is about 9 minutes long and his guitar solo is about 5 of that.
Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has one of the most uninspired guitar solos I've ever heard. In fact, that entire SONG was written and recorded in about a day and a half.
It just seems like too many people don't know how to differenciate a guitar solo from regular ol' noise.

Best guitar solo ever IMO, Stevie Ray Vaughan "Life Without You" live 1985, from Montreux. That is amazing.
I like the list, but the song are way too "Radio Friendly". You know, they are the most popular songs by those artists, not necessarily the best example. Maybe I'm getting too picky. I do like that you threw in some Smashing Pumpkins.
BTW, whats with Sweaty Teddy Neggent being above Jimi Hendrix, now that is just wrong. lol!
If you like guitar solos, you should really get into jazz guitar, like John Scofield or Pat Metheny. Or even some Flamenca, like Paco DeLucia. Those guys make that Nwingy Malms... watever, look like we nevered played an ax in his life. I highly recommend them.

instantly memoriable guitar solo, typical Brian may, unique style, great harmonics and rates much higher than stairway to heaven IMO. brighton rock is a great solo too.

Are you a "Trio" fan Zardon? That performance is some of the best music I have ever heard, the first time I heard De Lucia, McLaughlin, Dimeola play I though it was faked, and I had been playing guitar for 7 years at that point.

Well, I've been playing since i was 10, studied it pretty intensly for a few years, and played in several groups over the years. Even played at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, 3 times. Those days are gone now, but it was fun. Its funny, I grew up listening to the Beatles, did the grunge thing and metal. Now I'd just assume sit back and listen to Albert King or Robert Johnson.

Just some trial stuff, and I did a little work on a demo for a friends Jazz quartet, nothin special. I don't even know where they are now, but I'll give it a look-see. i might have some live stuff, or at least might know where to get it. The main part for me was playing live, that is the greatest, miss it very much. The studio was too tedious, to by the book, just like the rest of my life LOL. I'll see if I can get some for ya though.

just so you know, i didnt rate these songs - i think they are in no order.. the list is actualy a compilation i'm getting. I'm glad to see Joe Satriani in there - i was told he was very good. Him, Malmsteen and someone else are the guitarists in G3 i was told, but had trouble finding a place to demo \ download them apart from malmsteen.
I also wouldn't put stairway to heaven that high or maybe not on it at all. Then again i realy dont know what i would put at #1 !

malmsteen is ok, but he gets quickly tiring, its just guitar aerobatics, very skillful but not quite so pleasing on the ear. I kind of feel this way about Steve Vai as well. Great guitarists but I feel they are more form over substance. Satriani though is melodic and he is probably one of the best all round rock guitarists out there. Depends on your preference though, I do tend to go for guitar players who can make you feel something rather than just those who can play scales lightining fast. Its all very well moving at 100 miles per hour but you tend to miss most of the scenery.
Jeff Healey is great (blind guitarist who plays guitar like a keyboard), and I like may, knopfler, gilmore, page - all competent players with unique sounds.

Want to hear some good guitar/sitar work, there is a man named Robbie Fulks . He plays mostly country (real country, with great stories, not ANYTHING like the shit that is on the radio, trust me.) His band is phenominal and his lyrics are great, and very funny, gritty at times. His album South Mouth is one of my top 10 favorites, and that says a lot, cause I am by no means a country fan. One of my top solos is on his song "Cold Statesville Ground". Trust me, listen to the song a few times, to what he is saying, then listen to the solo. It will send a chill down your spine.
