Terrible idea, at least until humans can inhabit other planets. Even then this technology would probably be denied to the public and reserved for the hierarchy of the world's society.

That's exactly what a friend told me when we were on msn today
I should think it's true though, as he said, it'll probably be reserved for people like Bill Gates and the like. Imagine if they preserved the likes of MJ, Homer Simpson and Britney Spears

A Biblical view.
http://www.answersingenesis.org/crea...0/i4/years.asp
In the book of Genesis, the Bible routinely records human lifespans which seem outrageously different from our experience today. Adam lived to 930 years; Noah even longer, to 950 years (see graph below). These long lifespans are not haphazardly distributed; they are systematically greater before the Flood of Noah, and decline sharply afterward.
These great ages are not presented in the Bible as if they are in any way extraordinary for their times, let alone miraculous.
Strangely - just relatively recently scientists have discovered though Mitochondrial DNA that at one time the human population was almost extinct.. fits right in with this theory. Spooky.

Are you referring to the NGC's show on super volcanoes? I recall no mention of a Biblical flood as a reason for the near extintion of the human species.

I read in the bible our lifespans are getting shorter because of sin.
What if one day they might be a few years and declilne rapidly down to a few days!?

Sorry, I noticed the last bit didn't make much sense and edited it accordingly.
I had intended it to be a scary question

I call BS on that. Just because something is technically possiblem (if this even is), doesn't mean it will be a reality. The politics and nature of this type of research show me it will never get off the ground, at least not in this century. the effects this would have on the world would be terrible. Plus, nature always finds of way to make equal. Beside, who would want to be 1000 years old. Working for 40 years sounds like a pain in the ass, let alone 900 years, lol.

Don't forget what the old CEO of IBM said, that there will only be market for like 50 pc's in people's homes ever.
It may be a work in progress now, but it may well be a reality in future - after all, stranger things have happened.

really, who would want to live to be 1,000yrs. old? Living to be that old would probably just cause more problems than anything else. If anything, people should live to be 150yrs. (average) at most and even that seems like too much time to live. C'mon.....just look at the professor from Futurama .

Maybe they'll find a way to slow aging sufficiently as well. C'mon people, try to get optimistic about this. Imagine what we could have achieved if we lived longer, if Einstein had 1000yrs with which to do his research with, just imagine.....

It doesn't matter really because the Earth as we know it now won't be around that long anyway... At least that's what I believe. Deep down I think most people, religious or not, know that shit is coming to a head so to speak- and something is going to hit the fan soon. Is there anyone who doesn't have the same feeling?

Yes, and imagine if Hitler and his army had another 900 years... on a side note it's intriguing to think one could live for 1000 years, but what if all your friends and family decided to go "natural" route? And Vikingod is right, nature usually catches up and finds ways of cullling man's desires of everlasting life.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I got the feeling too, that when I'm done with my degree and I'm driving down the highway in my spankin new car, a voice will boom down or a nuke will come down or something and there will be a bright white flash and after a split second of searing pain, all will be no more.
Sometimes that thought scares me.

Yeah, you do have a point.
But I'm not saying it's good and true, I'm just saying it might be possible in future.

The reason for longer lives in biblical times is actually the flood of Noah came from the sky, the water never rained as it sat in the atmosphere. This filtered 99% of UV rays and such harmful things. This caused us to age way slower, and yeah its all theory but i like it. After the flood, the water dropped from the atmosphere and bam every1 was over exposed of UV and such harmful rays
