I saw this on the news this morning. They say it's because of low ratings.

I also heard that they have another Star Trek show possibly coming. They didn't give any details on that though.

Oh well, I still have Battlestar Galactica and Andromeda to sate my space show needs until something else comes along.

death to enterprise!

Good riddance to bad rubish.

I remember DS:9 being a pathetic knock-off of Babylon 5 when it was announced. Over time it found its own voice and turned into a semi-decent Space Opera. It no longer even attempted hard-SF like ST:TNG tried to do, but it at least was competent.

ST:V was much worse...the bridge crew was sad casting, and it turned into a combat-heavy program. The few interesting characters (Doctor, 7 of 9) could only make a few episodes watchable.

ST:E was a disaster from day 1. And its not Scott Bakula's fault... weak plot, inconsistent setting, retread ideas, and shameless T&A attempts (e.g. "decontamination gell"???) insult the legacy of ST.

They should shelve Star Trek for at least a decade. And get rid of Braga and Berman, if only to get some new ideas injected into the mold.

Unfortunately the amount of 'good' SF on TV is incredibly low. I was spoiled with 4th generation Dr Who, original ST and ST:TNG during my youth... there's been very little since that is comparable.

*cencored*

it would have done alot better if it were on at decent times....

Kinda the same thing happened to Futurama, ever change i got i'd try and watch it, but they kept moving the damn show around or putting it in the most rediculous time slots, like they wanted it to fail.

the first year of Enterprise (well actually the first year of ANY star trek show) has also been "blah".... course knowing that it will get better, you keep watching.. the last 2-3 seasons were excellent..... and the introduction of the latest things are very exciting.

How disappointing. I just got back into last season since the writing has gotten a LOT better. Just the other night I watched a couple of weeks ago (tivo rocks) episode where there was first contact with a alien race that "observed only" and it was a great Sci-Fi story. Really well done.

Might as well end it though.. the best TV sci-fi has been done and won't be surpassed. Babylon 5. The on going story that was not 'magicly wraped up in 45 min' really sucked me in. The character devolpment and deep story line after the 1st season really worked. The way you can re-watch episodes and catch hints of plot twists and arc's was so well written. Hard to top that if you ask me.

oh well... at least we won't be losing a series worth watching.

It amazes me how crap like this stays on the air for four seasons and then some good tv series can be very short lived... John Doe and Now and Again spring straight to mind.

*No offence to Enterprise fans

Damn Straight. Brandon Braga is one of the sh!ttiest Executiv Producers ever known in the industry, IMO. He ruined The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager(although it never really had even the slighest glimmer of hope), and Enterprise with repetative ideas, shoddy plot direction and the pointless need for poorly written crew banter during battle sequences. It just wasn't the same when Gene died...and did anyone else realize that the first through the fourth season of The Next Generation was one of the best written T.V. shows in history? That's because Gene wrote the basic outline for the entire 4 seasons before he died. You can totally see the difference in writing, show direction and even the actor's attitudes after Gene passed. After the whole "Borg" thing was completely overused, and the "Jem Haddar" thing just got absurd(thousands and thousands of ships constantly pouring from a wormhole? Give me a break.), both Rick Berman and Brandon Braga seemed to be a little washed up. Voyager made me sick(an African-American Vulcan, a female captain and a reformed Borg who just happens to be extremely beautiful? COME ON!!!!!! How much more demographically-related ass could they kiss?), and when I heard "Faith of the Heart' by Rod Stewart play during the opening credits of Enterprise, I nearly started crying. I had to leave the room and contemplate suicide before I realized Scott Bakula was on it.

Star Trek, as a whole, was never really meant to be a "Space Opera". It was just a simple idea mixed with some real-life ideas and some horrible acting. Why couldn't it just stay that way?

Futurama always got shafted due to NFL football -- it never had a good starting timeslot.

Also, FOX wanted to break Groenig...they wanted The Simpsons to continue forever, and saw Groenig was more personally committed to his newer series -- also Futurama was more favourable regarding ownership rights from Groenig too. So for alot of differnet reasons Fox never really jumped on the Futurama bandwagon.

In the end, 70+ quality Futurama episodes are better than seasons 10-20 of The Simpsons. The Simpsons has turned into SNL... Most conversations start or end with "Remember when it was funny?..."

Simpsons are getting too played out now. It's a great show and all, but the creators of the Simpsons are simply running out of ideas to make new episodes. Futurama could have easily filled in the Simpsons' time slot and continue to make an awsome show. All of the Star Treks have been pretty good IMO. But like Judas said, they were always on at inconvinient times. That's something that people want for a good show, to be on when they're home.

I was listening to a morning talk show recently with Futurama star Katey Sagal who *hinted* that there might be a reunion movie or return of the series on another network. Said the show has actually gotten much better ratings in syd. then it ever did as a series on Fox. I guess the idea is now it has an audience, now give it the time slot it deserves. So coming from one of the actors on the show, who knows. As for Enterprise, I've only started watching it again this season and thought the writing had improved greatly. Guess I'll have to check out the older episodes in rerun.

thing is, i know for a fact that thier are millions apon MILLIONS of people downloading every episode of enterprise before it officially airs sometimes. I really wish broadcasters would grow a brian and finally figure out that with current bandwidth capablities and with the help of bittorrent. Enterprise ratings would go through the roof if they considered them.
