Default Post United States of... EUROPE

Blair urged to say No to United States of Europe Oct 30 2002

Mike Jones Newsdesk@Wme.Co.Uk, The Western Mail

TONY Blair yesterday faced calls to halt the European Union's "federal advance" following proposals to rename it the "United States of Europe".

The Prime Minister on Monday welcomed the first draft of a "constitution" for Europe which includes the controversial suggestion.

Government sources admitted the alternative names, which also include "United Europe", were a "major negative".

There was "not a cat in hell's chance" of the EU being called a United States of Europe the source said.

But Eurosceptics seized on the document, drawn up by the EU Convention, as evidence that Britain is being dragged into a federal superstate.

What the........... lol didnt see this coming

I was wondering something, and I hope that maybe a French speaker could help me out. In French, the United States of America is "Etats-Unis d'Amérique." I've seen labels that say "Fabriqué en E.U." for "Made in the US" -- so if the abbreviated version of "US" is "EU" in French, how does one abbreviate European Union in that language?

Don't speak French but think its CE or EC for Commitee Europ or Europ Commitee which is a bummer since that will clash with the CE mark :s
