I'm currently on hold for five minutes with XFX (California) for technical support with my card that arrives tomorrow. If you're wondering why I call US office and not the one in the UK, it costs me $0.20 for a 15 minute call to US support and $17.00 for the same call to the UK thanks to it being premium rate. I intend to complain about that while I'm on the 'phone.
Why is the customer support ethos so different in Europe?

Ridiculous isn't it, it's cheaper to call across the pond than to call down the street

I just quickly sent this email to XFX (my name deleted) while I had the urge:
Quote:
Hi,
This is actually a complaint to do with customer support in Europe.
I am currently awaiting delivery of an XFX 8800GT so that I can test the performance against an EVGA model which I supect is faulty. If I RMA the EVGA then I would be using the XFX product for maybe two weeks and then would keep as spare or test model. Either way it would end up just being a test product for me.
I made an on-line enquiry this afternoon with XFX UK (ticket no 177902) to enquire whether the XFX was a reference layout in case I wanted to install a cooler at any point but was told this was against company policy so we ended the support ticket.
I rang US office tonight and spoke to technical support in Ontario California who immediately answered the question and told me all XFX 8800GT models are reference nVidia layout.
Question: Why is European policy so different to US policy?
Question: Why does it cost me 60p/minute to phone XFX UK but only 1.2p per minute to phone XFX US?
Question: Does XFX not value European customers as highly as those from the US?
I thank you in advance for the time taken to respond to these imnportant questions regarding support to European customers and await your considered reply.

Nah, EVGA GmbH costs me the same as the US but the language barrier is immense. The guy on the phone had to literally spell out the words he was saying and then I couldn't understand the letters he was saying. In the end he gave me his direct email and we do things that way.
I mean, at thend of the day I made what is really a pre-sales to XFX. The duration was half an hour including time on hold. In USD that cost me approx 64 cents. If I had called XFX UK it would have cost $30. The real problem though are the UK customers who are stupid enough to actually phone XFX in the UK. Talk about making profit for after-sales support.
On a lighter note, the american girl in Ontario on the phone sounded a lot hotter than the EVGA tech support I spoke to the other day in Brea. And she liked my British accent. She thought 'it sounded cute' lol. Gotta laugh man, gotta laugh....

It should stay well out to sea. There will still be sustained tropical storm force winds along the coast in Florida as Hanna builds strength again before making landfall somewhere near the border of Georgia & Carolina
