A true story. computer running during flood.

So I am with my uncle who is a computer guy. He builds, repairs, upgrades, and troubleshoots computers(okay okay sometimes just shoots ). He even has his own website and email server as well as some other stuff on his server. Its pretty nice. Anyway so it was raining pretty hard here in Seattle...I was on my way to his place. When I got there, he was pulling up at the same time. It was raining a ton by then which was pretty crazy. We walk into his house and start drying off...when all of the sudden I asked him "Hey is someone taking a shower?" he said "no but I think someone left the sink running"

funny thing was that nothing was running. All of the sudden he yells and runs downstairs. I follow to find that his server room is flooding. He had the side of the case on his server off because he needed to see if he had 64-bit PCI slots. He was going to buy a card for one of them I think...I dunno. Anyway there was water pouring DIRECTLY into the case. The fan had stopped on the CPU from all the water dumping on it. There was a good 5 inches of water on the ground so the server had quite a bit of water already in it already. He was about to rip out cables when I pointed out that the screen still worked.

point of the story?

THE SERVER WAS STILL RUNNING!!!! Everything was fine! no problems at all!!! So he took the time to go through shutdown stuff while I was digging out the drains and getting muddy. Then we carted all the computers upstairs. The P4 system he was building got shot to hell and it only got a few drops on it...but the partially submerged server survived and is running to this day no problem. The fan even started back up after it dried out.

Crazy neh?

A true story that I witnessed myself

System Specs

i beleive it...

i've seen a TV along with a Audio Amplifier being nearly submerged with water and still running..... it's kinda strange to see and to expect stuff to fry out quick...but.. somehow.. it just keeps running....

Nothing BEATS fireworks being set off from above a lake.. INTO the lake... and watching them EXPLODE under the lake though..

MythicaL is on a distinguished road

Heh, I do it all the time with my keyboard. I just submerge it under water to clean it. Take it out 20 mins later and it works perfectly fine

thats crazytalk man! submerging your keyboard?!

thats like my parents who use to run the keyboard through the dishwasher. HELLL NO!

I submerge my keyboard in pure rubbing alcohol(okay well 99% since pure is basically impossible) and then rub down each key. unless something is spilled on the inside, then I pop it open and do some deep cleaning.
