eBay situation… Need advice
Something is rotten here….
I started a 3 day action October. 21st, the item (1.2 ghz Intel celeron) was listed as a buy it now price set at $9.99 (+4.80 shipping) and was also an auction starting at $5. For those that don’t know as soon as someone bids the buy it now option disappears.
US $14.76 (This guy bid only once…. right at the end)
US $14.26 (other people biding back and fourth)
US $12.20
US $12.05
US $11.20
US $10.01
US $9.01
US $8.01
US $6.86
The guy won and paid the very next day via pay pal. I packed very well and shipped it out to him. As always my items are tested working guaranteed not dead on arrival but also as-is.
On the 1st I got this email:
Quote:
Hi XXXX,
I got the processor, but it doesn't work. I have tried
on 2 different motherboard and both have the same
result, computer power on but no screen.
|
So I replied that what board it had came out of and to make sure he’s got the latest bios and make sure the board is one that I compatible with ppga2/ titulan cpu’s.
I also told him this is the first time I’ve ever had anything not work on arrival and offered to refund the full action price (14.75) minus the shipping ($4.80). So I was offering him his 14.75 back and basically in a nice way to eat the shipping. Then end apologizing for the situation.
(Never any mentioning of having him ship back the defective CPU)
I was really nice about it I wish I’d saved a copy
On the 2nd I got this email
Quote:
|
Yes, my motherboard support both PPGA2& TAULATIN cpuprocessor. Let divide the auction price in half$14.75/2 = $7.37. You can refund me $7 and close theauction. Or I can ship back and you refund me $14.75.
|
????
Makes me wonder now because I’m sure this CPU was good before I shipped it to him. I’m guessing it works and was trying to jip me out of a refund. Got a bit of conscience when I replied, Because who in their right mind would offer to eat ½ the money I was willing to refund 100% of and then bring up of give him a full refund and he’ll ship it back. Knowing that most people will jump on the lower refund… I know the smart thing would be to do the ½ refund and move on. But if it’s like I suspect this guys just trying to dick me out of $$$ for a working cpu. Or he believes me that it’s working but if that was true he shouldn’t be asking for a refund at all… as-is all sales final…

I would do the ebay assistance forums
They can guide you in the right direction as long as you saved all of the e-mails from him w/ the headers etc. etc.

its such a small thing, id just refund the 7 bucks and move on. if it was a much more expensive item i might be looking at something else, but 7 bucks really isnt anything.

Stick to your scruples mate. All or nothing is what I say, unfortunately, having dealt with similar arseholes, if you want the processor back he'll probably kill it before hand.
Go to ebay support, and stick by the sold as is morale.

Theres not alot i can say on this auction but if he does post negitive feedback you can always post a responce on the neg feedback explaining the situation. but for future auctions make sure you have it somewhere that the auction is an "AS-IS" austion and the product, and all sales are final, if you have that in your auction no matter where it is or how small it is they cannot hold it against you, but you have to make sure its there from the begining, not edited in after the auction has started, this way you will never have a customer say "o i want a refund" just link them to the auction.....
MHO: dont set an auction up for 3 day's, because one thing i've noticed is the sham's like to have 3 day auctions cuz they want the product sold as quickly as possible and get a good outcome from it...just mho

With ebay you have to know what to legally say so nothing falls back on you. i can go on ebay right now buy an item and recieve it and get my money back because the seller left something out. Check out "ebay tips" thread...
