Canada BANS Low Carb Products
I've been waiting for something like this.. and frankly i support it...
get this fad out of here,
ANY PRODUCT that is labeled as "low carb" in any manner... will no longer be legal to sell anywere in canada....
YES
and to think, C2 coke was just released... and Pepsi was just on the verge HERE.... products are just reaching stores around my area.... Never play with fads, they tend to burn you... (IMO)

OTTAWA -- The federal government is putting Canadian food producers on a strict carbohydrate labelling diet that could knock a number of new product lines off grocery store shelves next year.
Health Canada says there's no scientific evidence to support low-carb diets, such as the ubiquitous Atkins diet, and the absence is reflected in new rules on labelling that come into effect in December 2005.
"There was - and still is - no reason from a nutrient point of view to be concerned with the amount of carbs that we eat," Carole Saindon, a spokeswoman for Health Canada, said in an interview.

it's quite disturbing to see HOW many people don't even understand what the low carb means when they attempt to go buy stuff in that mindframe... i mean, we've had people come into burger king (hey, we have been selling "low carb wopper meals" for awhile now) and they order the low carb meals ... only to receive it and go "wtf is this" "were is the bun" as all we do is make it normal without ketchup or any sauce and no bun in a bowl...
BK Canada is gonna be dropping the low carb menu ASAP.... and i'm happy to see it go... nothing but a waist of plastic/paper bowls

As a licensed practicing Pharmacist, I can agree with that assessment. Everything in moderation. Not everyone is the same, and a "PILL" will not solve everything.

This Atkins diet thing drives me nuts...in fact all fad diets drive me nuts. Fat is basically the bodies energy storage system...if you are taking in more energy than you're using then the body will store it as fat. If you're expending more energy than you're taking in then the body will use up its fat reserves first....eat sensibly and take plenty of exercise is the only diet I need to know about!!
All these fad diets do is promise to give people a way to lose weight without having to work at it, and surprise surprise they fail to deliver...There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. If you want to lose a pound of fat in any given period you have to use 3500 calories more than you take in...

Crazy Canadians.
It's good that they banned it. A lot of this stuff does more harm than good.

And in the UK, it looks like they are banning "Jumbo" size bars of chocolate, so the real chocoholic will just have to buy two standard ones (how long before it's "only one per customer") instead.

Seeing various products in super markets, fast food, restaurants, etc that are touted as 'low carb' foods and drinks is just getting on my nerves. A no carb diet isn't the miracle people have been looking for to loose weight; I'm glad Canada banned those foods and didn't get this idiotic fad infect the Northern Regions as well.
Want to loose weight? It's called a healthy diet and exercise... not cutting all your carbs from your diet with some 'fad foods'.

low carb diets are worthless and are a nutritional disaster. as for the atkins diet, the man died of congestive heart failure, if i recall, so why are we using hsi diet anyways?
the only diets that actually seem to make sense to me are the ones like weight watchers, and possibly even slimfast, and those type thigns that just limit proportions of wht you eat and encourage excercise, as well as promote eating more fruit vegetables and less meat/starch, as, in America anyways, we eat mroe starch and meat then anythign else.

I actually think Mr Atkin died from slipping and hitting the floor. As is the result of skimping on a nutritional requirement.

Good for the Canadians, that is a great desicison, what a lot of people dont understand is that all these low-carbo diets do serious damage to the kidneys and the liver. Unfurtently our American goverment is too concerned with money than making the right desicisions. God i'm too tired to even spell right now.

low carb helped me
i cut off subs and bread, pasta, pop i never nap anymore, i lost 40 pounds got more muscle. way more energy and my immunity is up. atkins wraps are great, and found the atkins bars quite helpful. eliminating white carbs definitely helped me, just the occasional brown rice, and of course u cant avoid bread living in a western country lol
but i will not disagree, CARBS ARE BAD, messes up your triglyceride levels and you gain a LOT. coke c2 was damn good too!
